Report: Shampoo Scents Make 3 Boys Grow Breasts
Report: Shampoo Scents Make 3 Boys Grow Breasts

BOSTON -- Researchers think scented oils that are found in some shampoos, soaps and lotions can cause temporary breast growth in young boys, but only in rare cases.

A preliminary study released Wednesday said the oils appeared to disrupt the boys' hormonal balance.

The federally funded study comes from the University of Colorado and the National Institutes of Health and is reported in the latest edition of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Three boys, ages 4, 7 and 10, developed the condition while using products containing lavender and tea tree oils. All three were normal again when they stopped using the product with the natural oils.

1. You'd have to also wonder
If they were drinking milk that had hormones in it or other genetically altered food.

2. I could sniff tea tree oil all day.
But I wonder why they would fund such a study.

3. deoderant causes cancer.
a friend who is an ultra libbie decided the chemicals in deoderant cause cancer so she gave it up..........for about 3 weeks. After that the stink got the best of her. :)

To be honest, I doubt there's much about our modern lifestyle that can in any way be good for us. It's just not possible at this point to completely rid ourselves of chemicals.

15. That's a misconception
The metals in deodorant can be radiopaque on a mammogram and look like a small tumor. The day of the mammo, don't wear deodorant until after the test.

7. exactly!
Both Lavendar and Tea Tree oils are healing elements if anything. I would look at this as propaganda from the big corps, trying to tear down the organic markets!

10. lavender oil and tea tree oil have been used for centuries
Probably thousands of years of use. Nobody ever noticed before now that they cause boys to grow breasts?

More likely - they don't.

14. A federally funded study - does that mean they had to hold back on
Katrina help because the budget went to this or does this mean that they paid a private company (read friend) to conduct the study.

16. Sure glad it wasn't something like imidazolidinyl urea or the isothiazolinone
Or worse yet, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol that was causing these changes in the boys.

I've never trusted those new-fangled natural shampoos.
