How do exit polls work? Poller only talking to the well-dressed at my ward

I only watched for about 10 minutes so hardly a representative sample, but the poller had all the big media names on his box of stuff and only talked to those who appeared well dressed and drove up in fancy cars?

How do they pick who they talk to? Seems worrisome that the media logos on his stuff was ABC, NBC, CNN, Fox, and CBS (one other I couldn't make out from a distance).

I am dressed in jeans and a flannel shirt, for what it's worth. Maybe I'm just too working class looking for anyone's tastes. Hell, who knows?
