The REAL Question For The Obama Administration After Today
I don't think the Ds will lose either house of Congress. They'll lose a few seats in the House, but that's it.

So the real question will be this: does the Obama Administration take their narrow victory and a reduced D majority in the House as a sign to continue down the political road that hasn't worked for them so far (ie: trying to compromise with Rs)?, OR, do they take the win as a sign that they are being given a second chance to deliver real change, to get vocal about it and to shut down the RWNM and kick them to the political curb?

10. I agree, that's his bent
Millionaire politician with moneyed interests... I'll lay down a twenty that the Democratics use the election as an excuse for MORE "compromise" and LESS "civil rights"

3. You don't buy those stories about
how the Senate is too conservative (dems included) to get through more progressive legislation?

5. Health Care Bill was a battle for DEMOCRATIC votes, not Repugs.
There's no way Congress will go hard left.

7. We don't need a tea party in reverse
The tea party people are honestly convinced that the electorate is secretly conservative and that if Republicans were just actually conservative (remember, Repulicans are as disappointed in their Congresspeople as we are) the nation would flock to them. If your prediction turns out to be correct, this rightward swerve from the GOP will be what saves us from electoral disaster.

There's a similar mistake some people on this board makes, thinking that in fact most Americans are secretly liberal and that if we had a lot more Kuciniches and Graysons the people would come flocking to us. This is, in my opinion, just as wrong as the teahadists' view, and will be just as dangerous to our party as it has been to the GOP.

9. Critical difference
They're wrong and we're right.

The stimulus was too small.
HCR didn't reform health care.
Tax breaks for the rich are bankrupting this country.
Two wars are killing us in more ways than we can count.

It's not a matter that the mere election of a few more Grayson's will change things. It is a matter that if we actually pass progressive legislation, it will accomplish the goals that will impress people, after the fact. They gave Bush 8 years and he lied us into wars, bankrupt the country and the economy, and screwed up Katrina. They got thrown out because they did what they said they'd do and they failed anyway. We wouldn't have that string of failures if the democrats would just act like democrats and pass democratic legislation. Instead of passing 15 year old GOP health insurance reform bills, and watered down variations of GOP stimulus ideas.
