Should ill-gotten gains in Swiss bank accounts be used to buy
things like BMWs, jets, trips to the various vacation islands, mansions?

1. This sounds like an Ed Schultz poll. But for the hey of it, if they're ill-gotten
gains they shouldn't be used to buy anything like that, but that's exactly what they're there for.

2. I got tired of "should welfare people be able to buy" threads.
Fair is fair.

3. How do you prove they're ill-gotten?
That's the problem.

Whereas with welfare cards, you know those came from other taxpayers.

6. If the American income is in Swiss bank accounts, it's there for
one of two reasons..U.S. taxes avoidance, or it's ill gotten gains to be hidden from the IRS. Either way, it's ill gotten because avoidance of taxes is tax cheating.

8. Or they're Americans living in Switzerland.
Money banked overseas is not, ipso facto, illegally earned.

My husband keeps about $5,000 in a Dutch bank for when he visits family there. And the income in that account is certainly not illegal.

If they're ill gotten, then they shouldn't have the gains in the first place :P
