Post your election day stories here
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 01:23 PM by Ken Burch
I stood out in the rain in morning rush hour traffic with a Scott McAdams sign. We had a big crowd by the Juneau-Douglas bridge(more McAdams signs than Lisa or Miller signs, which is always good). The rain soaked through all my clothes. It was cruddy enough that at some parts of the intersection, supporters of opposing candidates were actually huddling together just to stay warm.

Voted at the Douglas library.

1. No real story, but as usual I visited the polling place at the assisted living facility
They moved the polls upstairs so the residents have more room to hang out in the lobby and watch the voters as they enter their home. I'm always sad for them when I enter, but give them all a kind smile as I leave.

I always vote in the morning after the AM rush but before the lunch rush, so there weren't many people there. Same as it always is.

2. Old, white and bitter
that was the line at my polling place in Indiana. Noticeably so, and certainly not typical of the crowd I have seen there in years past, particularly age-wise. At one point an older gentleman in line, I'm talking probably 80, said "I wish they would mark who the incumbents are on the ballot so we could throw the bums out!" to which the numerous old folks around him chuckled and murmured in approval until another of the greatest generation said "Yeah except our incumbents is all Republicans, they ain't helpin Obama one bit" to which the same cadre of great-grandparents gave various responses in agreement and then got quiet the rest of the time in line. Not exactly a happy story.

14. Are you for real?
You have really put your finger on the real problem in this country. My contempt for a pack of old fools at the polls is just shameful. Kumbaya.

16. It is obviously a reading comprehension problem
on my part because I apparently have no idea what your point ever was. Whatever it was it was lost on me. Best of luck in the future.

4. We went to vote
the poll worker actually remembered us... and NO CHALLENGE... which is good. I did not have my passport for the FIRST TIME in a while.

I was challenged in 2004 as to my status as citizen. That poll worker has not been seen again... so I guess the report worked.

11. It took us half an hour to fill ballot
only thing was, we took an open table... the cardboard polling station was way too rickety for us.

8. I sometimes think I'm stuck in a Norman Rockwell painting. As we
drove up to the school to vote, the car in front of us stopped in front of a man holding a republican sign. The woman driving leaned out and said "John, you're gonna catch your death holding that silly sign in this cold." The man said something and the woman laughed and said, "at least put on a hat." Inside, the clerks asked my wife how the new grandchild was and reminded her that the ballot was printed on both sides. No one was asked for ID or voter registration, just address and name, if they weren't known to the clerks. After we voted, we were asked twice if we had marked both sides of the ballot. As we were leaving, one of the three cops asked in a loud whiny voice, "didn't anyone bring donuts?" and everyone in the place, including the cops, cracked up.

10. How close was the guy with the Republican sign to the polling station?
You could probably turn him in for violating the election laws.

9. I was the youngest person at my polling place by about 40 years...
I went around 11:30 and there were maybe 10-15 other people there voting. My son was happy because he got an "I Voted" sticker. Pretty much the same as any other election day.
