Why can't they call themselves REPUBLICANS???

I can't stand the name "The Tea Party". I believe that the only reason that they are using their new name is because their party will not win under the name of "Repukelicans". My nerves are on edge right now because all I can think of is how lax our country has become when learning the facts behind politics.

How many of you guys think that they should go back to using their real name?? What's wrong with the Repukelicans? Did Bush the destroyer ruin their names.

Sorry for the rant but I can't stand cable fake news right now. They are all smiles like they won something big. :cry:

It's all just a ploy to try and make them look like a "grass roots" movement, when in fact they are pretty much bought and paid for by the same right wing money as every other republican group! The powers that be on the right want to try and make the tea party groups look like unhappy americans who are a mix of all parties who just got fed up with "Obama"! It's all just another tactic by the right to try and make the president look bad so they can do their best to make him a one term president, or course is isn't going to work but that won't stop the right!

We love Obama around here. I would love to see some of the pundits come here and bad rap him.

But, I met a real neive man the other day. He makes less then $10.00 per hour and he joined the Tea Party because he thinks that they are for the working man. We got into a slight arguement because I told him that the Tea Party are the Republicans and he said that I was a liar. He works at Harolds Chicken on 53rd Street and his job is very hard labor. I couldn't make him believe that he was going to vote for the Republicans even though he works in Hyde Park several blocks from our President.

What they are are nationalists... and some of them are monarchists and imperialists. Damn few of them vote by genuinely republican principles.

13. Two reasons.

First, they don't support much of the (R) platform. They'd be bad repubs if they were repubs. They pretty much bail on social issues--some members have their own views, it varies from state to state and TP group to TP group, but overall social issues just aren't on their collective agenda. It pays to remember it's not a homogeneous, disciplined group.

Second, many aren't repubs. Take my in-laws. They're firmly Tea-Party folk. One brother-in-law considered * to be insane and voted for Gore, reluctantly. He bailed in 2004 and 2008. Another did spotted owl observations for the Forest Service, quite "green" and would punch anybody trying to say he's repub. He's not. He despises much of the repub agenda. However, he's attended a couple of Tea Party rallies and keeps trying to get me to go to the ones held where I live. My mother-in-law hasn't been (R) since perhaps the '60s. They consider neither party to represent them.

They weren't generally fond of Gore or Kerry. They distinctly disliked Obama; they voted for Clinton, I suspect, the ones that voted in 2008, if only because they had nothing good to say about McCain. Since 2008 they've become more conservative because they disagree with much of what Obama's said he stands for. Their biggest concerns: The deficit and the impact that increased taxes would have on the economy. (They remember when "you don't raise taxes during a recession" was the received wisdom.)

Note that my in-laws are well educated. Two of the three have more years' formal education than Obama. One was tenured faculty. The other taught, as a TA, nearly as many courses as Obama did. Appeals to degrees and university teaching tend to not impress them.
