Help a Canadian out!
I kind of don't know the nuts and bolts of the US election, because up until our local election last week, I'd been mostly invested in that.

So, could you maybe explain one or two of the races in your area to me? Who's running, what they're like, what the big issues are, and who might be likely to win?

Thanks! :hi:

1. U.S. Senate Race in North Carolina:
Current Secretary of State Elaine Marshall vs. Incumbent Republican Senator Richard Burr.

Looks like Marshall will lose.

Would be shame for obvious reasons.

2. First thing to understand is that this is not a federal election
but 51 states running races... with 51 dem parties, and 51 republican parties.

Don't worry many Americans don't get this either.

3. Senator Patty Murray here in Washington State
Democratic Senator Patty Murray is seeking re-election to the U.S. Senate. Her opponent, Dino Rossi, is a Republican. This is one of the races around the country a lot of people are watching. It's a very close race, and I suspect it's going to be days if not weeks before we know the outcome.

Wife and I voted for Murray, even though my wife's vote was cast with the words, "I don't like either one, but I like Rossi less."

Dino Rossi is an almost stereotypical conservative Republican representing the interests of the wealthy, and that's about it. He's a very polished professional politician and isn't given to the absurd and bizarre remarks from someone like Sharron Angle or Christine O'Donnell. For that reason I fear him more than either Angle or O'Donnell.
