Free meal coupon prompts election bribery allegation

Voter turnout could edge close to 1994 midterm record, officials say WICHITA — The Kansas Democratic Party today called for an investigation into whether election bribery laws were broken when a coupon for a free meal at Mike's Steak House was included in some Republican campaign literature.

Kenny Johnson, Democratic Party executive director, said in a news release that the coupons were attached to campaign literature for Leslie Osterman, a Republican candidate for the District 97 seat in the Kansas House of Representatives. Johnson said he asked the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office to investigate.

TOPEKA — Voter-intimidation robocalls that reportedly spread false information about today's election are under investigation by the state attorney general's office.

Monday, the Kansas Democratic Party asked the attorney general to investigate reports of voters receiving calls over the weekend "to bring their voter registration card and proof of home-ownership with them to the polls on Nov. 3rd," according to a news release.

The election actually is today. Repeat voters are not required to show any kind of identification to cast a ballot, said secretary of state spokesman Tyler Longpine
