Took my son to vote for the first time today...

He's not really political but I knew he would vote the same way I did, straight ticket Dem. At the last minute he asked if his girlfriend could go and vote with us, also the first time for her to vote. She is even less political than my son but she wanted to participate. She didn't know who to vote for so I mentioned that I had voted straight Dem. She came out and said that she voted the same way. On the way home my son said that as it turned out I got to vote three times. Fat lotta good it did me, I live in Tennessee.

Seriously, that is a good story - we all need to cultivate/raise our Dem kids!

6. Also, as they say "politics is local." Those two could turn around a school board election

...or a state house representative race. Maybe not this year, but chances are good they could be the decisive votes sometime in their lives, if they vote every cycle.

I keep telling the story about how I drove my brother-in-law (a first-time voter) to the polls in 1992. He was wishy-washy about going, but I talked him into it, and he got there just as they were chaining the door locked behind us at closing.

The Democratic state senator in his district won by SIX votes, and that win ensured the Democrats tied with Republicans for control of the state senate!

My son voted for the first time today too. We went together..he voted straight Dem. as well. YAY for the younger generation.
