Lexington, Ky. elects openly gay man as mayor
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 06:41 PM by terrya
It may be a crappy night tonight, but I think this is outstanding!

Kentucky’s second-largest city has elected an openly gay man as its next mayor. Vice-Mayor Jim Gray was victorious tonight in his second campaign for the city’s top job, beating incumbent Mayor Jim Newberry.

“This is a tremendous victory for Lexington, for Kentucky’s LGBT community and for fairness. We are proud of Jim Gray and his fantastic campaign staff who fought hard for this win,” said Chuck Wolfe, Victory Fund’s president and CEO.

Gray was among more than 100 openly LGBT candidates standing for election across the U.S. today.

1. Excellent news! Hard to believe KY did that (and no
offense to anyone, but they seem so very conservative).

16. It's not that hard to believe, because cities - urban areas - are blue
in nearly every state and rural areas are red in nearly every state.

The only difference is that the rural areas in the South and Mid-West are more vast than our urban areas, unlike the North and West.

5. He is?
No mention of that anywhere, that I saw, on the local media outlets during the campaign. No one even brought it up.

14. Really??
I LIVE in Kentucky--read the paper, watch local news, etc., and I did not know this. That brightened my evening after the Paul debacle. Thanks for the info.
