San Francisco law requires healthier fast food kids meals


SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- San Francisco lawmakers have approved legislation they hope will force fast-food chains such as McDonald's to make their children's meals healthier or stop selling them with toys.

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to approve an ordinance that would limit toy giveaways in children's meals that have excessive calories, sodium and fat. It also requires servings of fruits or vegetables with each meal.

The measure drew enough support to overcome an expected veto by Mayor Gavin Newsom. The supervisors are expected to vote again to override the veto.

Supervisors say the law would make San Francisco the first major city to take this action to combat childhood obesity.

on child psychologists and other experts every year to addict kids to unhealthy foods, right? And that this is one of the ways that they do it?

6. What matters are the shopping choices of the parents and what they teach or don't teach their kids.

Make healthy choices and give a enough of a damn to make sure your children are taught to do the same and it won't matter what the junk food sellers do. Evidently the San Fransico Board of Supervisors does not believe that the parents in their fine city are capable of making those decisions unassisted.
