My Nancy Pelosi appreciation thread

I just wanted to post something positive on behalf of Nancy Pelosi.

She is the first woman to be Speaker of the House, and by definition is the most powerful female politician in American History.

I never understood why more wasn't make of her historic rise to the House speakership. She stood strong, when others didn't. And it was with her help and guidance that in a very volatile political era, Democrats made impressive gains in 2006 and 2008, winning in places I never thought Democrats would ever win. She was incredible helpful in leading this country to elect its first African American President. And when Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (and even the White House) wanted to give up on the dream of Health Care, it was Nancy Pelosi's strong hand that guided the the historic legislation into the law.

Often times in our history, generational time must pass before we can properly archive the historic accomplishments of the people currently before us. I think Nancy Pelosi could fall into this category. She has bravely taken the heat and been demonized for Bush's economy, while providing cover for others to survive. She has made tremendous political sacrifices for her party, constituents and our country. She will be remembered for the positive contributions she has made to our history.

This is my Nancy Pelosi appreciation thread. On a night when she is endlessly bashed as the symbolic "face of defeat" and voter backlash, I thought it was needed here.

Please feel free to post your positive thoughts in regard to our outstanding and historic Speaker of the House…. Nancy Pelosi.

1. Nice post.
I know it won't happen, but in my fantasy mind, I would like to see the lame duck House pass a bazillion progressive bills, just for spite.

2. "Face of defeat" and "voter backlash"?
Speaker Pelosi kicks ass, that's why she's hated--but I would never describe her in such terms. I'm curious as to why you chose to do so?

11. I agree that she kicked a***!

I am a big fan of hers. I used those terms because the GOP used her as the symbolic enemy to run against.

8. She did her best.
Republicans get rewarded for hurting this Country's recovery from the very policies that they implemented a short 6 years ago.. Not her fault that 50% of the American voters are ignorant on the facts.

10. (((((Nancy Pelosi))))))
The more I've learned about her, the more respect and appreciation I have for her. If she had been here 200+ years ago, she would have been one of the Founding Mothers of our country.

17. ((Nancy Pelosi))
I have such great admiration for her. She led us to so many historic moments, stayed strong and true to the message. I'm having a hard time believing that people want to undo HISTORY.

What is wrong with America? We are going to be the laughing stock of the world.

sigh.

21. She did a good job at passing strong legislation.
She did a shit job at defending it, which is why her job title is about to change. But Democratic failure to stand behind Democratic victories is hardly endemic to Speaker Pelosi. She did, all things considered, a pretty good job. Certainly better than most would have done.
