How likely is it that the Republicans would actually try to impeach Obama?
In the likely event that they retake the House, they will witchhunt him even more ruthlessly than they did to Clinton. What BS charge would they try to impeach him for? Jaywalking? Putting his elbows on the table?

3. They can't really do anything without the Senate though, right?

13. They can investigate forever and they can impeach.
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 10:28 PM by kenny blankenship
Not being able to get a conviction in the Senate didn't stop pukes from impeaching Clinton, after a million hours of committee hearings, Ken Starr witchhunts in fed courts, etc. It can be very very damaging politically and derails a presidential agenda with the shadow of a pending legal judgment against him, even if it ends without issue in the Senate.

16. Not right.
The House can impeach him. The Senate would then hold the trial.

I think it is much more likely that the rabid republicans will hold hearing after hearing, to create distractions and disruptions. I doubt that they would actually consider impeaching him.

23. I could really see this scenario backfiring on them then.
I really doubt they would try it this term because he'll have a pretty easy reelection if they are too petty. Instead they'll wait for his second term to try something this major.

for them to touch in regards to impeachment?

12. That would be political suicide
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 10:24 PM by GoCubsGo
For that alone, it would be worth the 50 million dollars, since there is no there there. Piss away 50 million bucks on a witch hunt while the country is falling apart at the seams? Yah, that'll work. Go for it, assholes.

5. About 100%. They only need a simple majority in the House...
which they will have.

Now, they will never make it stick in the Senate.

But they will try with investigations out the Ying Yang.

10. 100%
They are Republicans. They will do it.

Though they've watered down the concept of impeachment.

I read "The Hill" on occasion and it's always brought up.

Personally, I think it's one reason they refuse to address their agenda,

will be a lot of investigations against Democrats in general by the very party that campaigned on fiscal reform. They'll try to make cuts on Social Security & Medicare in order to pay for these investigations, imo.

19. Zero. They learned their lesson from the disaster with Clinton.
Instead they will sent him bills that he will have to veto and claim that he is an obstructionist, or that if he signs them he will alienate his base.

26. This is what I'm thinking too as the "better strategy". It's only the wacky/crazy/fringe that want
him impeached so they'll try to sway the more rational of them with their stupid politics. Then they'll go for impeachment in O's second term.

20. VERY likely. Watch out for a Birth Certificate investigation.
And anything else they can think of. They are foaming at the mouth to impeach the first black President who had the nerve to win.

I mean, shit, that Issa-creature has all but promised it. Whether anything comes of it, I don't know. I don't know if it'll even make it out of the House.
