I feel like crying. (Not election related)

A couple of weeks ago I was home alone with the two froglets. I went down to the basement to get something without remembering that I had locked the door from the other side (yeah, pretty dense). So anyways, I found myself locked in the basement with my two toddlers upstairs, and no way to get to them. I fortunately had a phone and a phone book down there, so started calling around to various locksmiths. I finally got one who said he could be right over and would charge $75.00 for the call. I had to go with him since one of my boys was already starting to sob on the other side of the door.

Anyway, long story short, he came and got into the house and let me out of the basement and I was able to get to my now hysterical toddler (the other toddler is more mellow). Then he went and made a copy of the key with a little storage pouch to keep in my basement so it wouldn't happen again. He didn't charge anything for that last part. I wrote him a check for $81.00 and that was the end.

Anyway, just opened the mail today and there was the check enclosed along with a nice note saying that they wouldn't charge me anything because of the circumstances and the kids.

So, these days it's hard to believe that there are still decent people in business, and it's easy to believe that the whole country is just generally mean and nasty, but this has kind of renewed my faith that there are decent people out there.

Send a letter to your local newspaper telling about this kind locksmith: it will get him some business!

I'm glad there was a happy ending--thank goodness you had your phone with you!!!! Can you imagine if you hadn't...? How nice that even at first he didn't charge for making a copy and a pouch for you? How thoughtful!

I always look at online reviews when I'm choosing a plumber, electrician, gutter cleaner, etc, and I chose my dentist on the basis of a similar nice thing he did for a friend. Wouldn't it be a sweet thank-you if you wrote an online review on Yahoo or Angie's List or whatever's used in your area? As a customer I'd want to know about your experience, and it'd be nice for their business too!

So glad everything worked out okay, and :hug: to you and your little ones. It's great to read a story like this on a night like this.

28. The last time a business really came through for me,

I posted their info on my Facebook status for a few days, plus sent emails to everyone in the area about how great they were, and then I emailed the company to tell them they I was referring them to everyone possible. Word of mouth is very valuable.

12. Ack! I would have been in such a panic! I am glad you were able to get help. My eldest once

locked himself in the bathroom when he was a young toddler. I was so freaked out because I knew there was a weird key (it's a trailer door) but I didn't know how to use it. I wound up calling hubby at work and he talked me through it. In the meantime ElderGreenKid did not drown himself or eat the soap or anything else. Phew! :)

to publicly thank him and name his business. One good turn deserves another. I would be great exposure for him.

And that really is nice. We were having a problem with the cable and the guy that came out was supposed to charge extra for going in the house. We were talking and he felt bad because I had been out of work (son pays the cable or I would have canceled it long ago). He fixed the problem inside at no extra charge. I couldn't thank him enough. He must have had second thoughts because he left, then got worried and said if they did a follow-up call to say that he never went into the house.

There really are nice people out there. Glad you found one.

you should be off DU and on Word writing a thank you note and will strongly recommend that guy for further business. Someone like him has to be a true Democrat to really care about the kids and rip up that check. :)

and you gave him access to your front door key's location, you may want to change that lock and the place where you keep your keys.
