Regardless what you might think of what Clinton actually did after 1994, the point was that despite the fact that the Dems lost badly that year, Clinton still won reelection in 1996 and was able to govern even though the GOP continued to narrowly control Congress. We are better off now than in 1994 because we still have the Senate as well as the Presidency.

The "Blue Dogs" are gone. Harry Truman was right. Given a choice between a Republican and a Democrat acting like one, the Republican will win every time.

I think that it was a good thing to purge those losers from the party. I just can't wait for all of the goodies that the wing nuts give their followers. Oh wait, it is the kkkorporations that will be getting them all.

Do you think that the sources of the money will ever be fully revealed? There are a lot of reporters out there investigating and a lot of the wing nuts don't want to say. Hell, if you have to whisper, it must be scandalous!

21. To explain my metaphor

Which some of you got: I recognize that the result could have been worse. I know that after major shifts and accomplishments, there's a backlash (1862 - Lincoln lost the House in part because the war wasn't going well, in larger part because he was going to free the slaves; in 1938 FDR lost the House after passing Social Security; in 1948 Truman lost the House because Dixiecrats were shown that Blacks could fight as well as Whites, and the Democrats didn't pull a WWI Frenchie.)

I lived through Katrina. My parents lost their house and my father's Alzheimer was hurricaned into the late stage. I came back, fought back and helped rebuild. As did so many others.

History: Katrina was a man-made disaster, brought on by neglect, ignorance, corruption and indifference. Had the levees been built properly, or inspected properly, they would have held. It would have been a disaster but the city would not have drowned. Had Shrub and his puppetmasters not been interested in PR - had they paid attention - the rescue would have begun on day one, and the draining on day three or four.

The rational for and conditions that led to the "red wave" parallel the thinking of people and leaders pre-Katrina. And like Katrina, damage could not have been prevented, but some planning and thinking and acting could have minimized the damage.

Like Katrina, once the waters recede, we'll rebuild and recover, stronger than before - and when we've returned we won't look for those who weren't with us when we needed them. (Read: blue dogs)
