He was given a committee chairmanship to caucus democrat. He would lose that unless 4 others jumped with him to get the GOP to 51.
If self-interest is the presumed motive for his actions then expect him to stay put.

McMahon may run again in 2012. She felt she ran against a stronger opponent (Blumenthal) and believes if she runs against LIEberman he will have a harder time siphoning off Republican votes. I read in a few places if she got at least 45% of the GE vote she would consider it. Don't know if she will -- But LIEberman jumping to the republicans may have ended with her
