I'm dreading Obama's speech today
Because of what it probably might contain. A lot of reaching out to republicans and pledges to work together, and a general tone of chagrin. Hate to say it, but it will probably be a wimpy speech that tells the republicans that just about whatever they want is on the table, as long as they give back a few crumbs.

Its disgusting how the republicans didn't cooperate with the Dems when they got swept in the elections two years ago, but now they are claiming to to be the voice of the people and will get a lot of what they want even though they only control one chamber.

I hope I'm wrong, and a fiery and defiant Obama will come out and tell the republicans they are in for a tough fight from now on, that he won't back down from them or give in, but I'm prepared to be disappointed and instead hear a tone of capitulation and bi-partisanship.

1. Obama's a smart guy. He knows what he needs to do.
Correct...that he probably won't do what he needs to do, but he knows and it will happen if he wants any chance of reelection in 2012.

5. Thank you. I hope he holds tough...the House is nothing.

2. Why? It won't be much different than what we've been hearing over the past couple years.
Think about it. I have and can't help but feel down and bitter.

4. Not even going to watch it
I have been cheerleading for the Dems full blast for about 8 years straight now. I dont think I can take hearing Obama give a "we will all work together" speech today. And am always being accused of being an in the tank pro Obama cool-aide drinking fan girl and I am just DONE. At least for a while.

6. I have more faith in the guy than that.
I could be wrong, but I predict he will give an awesome speech today, even though he's probably a little bit devastated.

7. What's the over-under on the number of times he uses a word like "compromise" and
"bipartisan" and other, equally, offensive terms?

8. You're probably right...
It seems to me that the President will just take the road to capitulating to the Right. He's trapped like a rat, at least from my perspective.

I feel sorriest for those of you uninsured Americans. Now, a universal public option won't ever come to the table. It'll just be another watered down "let the free market take care of it" version.

From one progressive to another, though - just keep fighting! We in Canada didn't get our health care without years of struggle. I'm sure that banding together and uniting under REAL progressives, the Democratic Party can regain control and stop appeasing the "Moderates" or Republicrats.

9. Oh, he'll say all the right "conciliatory" words about compromise...
...and working with the opposition. But he knows full well that the Boner Gang will never do anything but obstruct. At the moment, it's all about sounding nice, so that, in the (near) future, he can say that we tried to play nice, but those meanie Republicans wouldn't do it.
