“….It was the most expensive political contest in the state's history, and one of the nastiest and most colorful. But in the end, Tuesday's election for the U.S. Senate was as easy a win for Democrat Richard Blumenthal as had been predicted at the start…..Led by strong support from women and unaffiliated voters, Blumenthal notched a decisive victory over Republican Linda McMahon, the former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, who poured at least $45 million of her own money into her first campaign for public office…..Blumenthal immediately took a jab at McMahon as he appeared before several hundred of his supporters at the Hartford Hilton just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday….."I have something money can't buy, I have you,'' he said to sustained cheers. Repeating a line that became one of his standard attacks, he added, " Connecticut today had an election, not an auction."….The crowd reacted with enthusiasm and Blumenthal softened his tone a few moments later. "To my opponent, I extend a hand after a tough and difficult campaign," Blumenthal said, adding that all sides needed to work together…..”

“HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — U.S. Rep. John Larson, the fourth ranking Democrat in the House, has easily won re-election to a seventh term in Connecticut's 1st Congressional District….Larson, the head of the Democratic Caucus, beat Ann Brickley, a former executive at General Electric and a political novice….In a district where Democrats outnumber Republicans by an almost 3-to-1 one margin, Larson still had almost $859,000 left to spend at the start of October. Brickley struggled to raise money and had just over $35,000 in her coffers….”

“Norwich - Escaping the fate of many Democrats nationwide, U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney easily won a third term Tuesday, defeating Republican Janet Peckinpaugh by more than 20 percentage points…."Looking around this room, I see faces from all over this district, which is a wonderful part of the state of Connecticut," Courtney told supporters who had gathered at the Holiday Inn in Norwich. "It is an honor to travel around these 65 towns and really see what people are facing every day."…Courtney said residents of the state's 2nd District are tough but still need an advocate who will fight for them in Washington….”

“….As New Haven U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro coasted to an 11th term, she expressed cautious optimism about working in a House of Representatives newly taken over by Republicans—if GOP leaders are willing to compromise. …She made those comments shortly after her victory speech on Tuesday night delivered to a packed house of supporters at the Sargent Peppers Nightclub on Sargent Drive…..DeLauro (pictured), a Democrat, handily defeated Republican challenger Jerry Labriola, Jr. to win another term representing Connecticut’s 3rd Congressional District. According to The New York Times, with 74 percent of precincts reporting, DeLauro had 102,711 votes, or 61.8 percent. Labriola had 61,377 votes, or 36.9 percent. …..DeLauro will return to a House of Representatives transformed by a wave of Republican victories nationwide. Those victories will hand leadership to the GOP, which means Republicans will lead House committees and set the legislative agenda….. DeLauro, who is close to now lame-duck House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has been able to push causes like food safety as chairwoman of the Appropriations Agriculture Subcommittee….While noting that some Republican leaders have expressed an unwillingness to work with Democrats, DeLauro noted that she has found bipartisan support for some bills. She said she hopes “cooler heads will prevail” so that the two parties can work together…..Having won, Republicans face a new challenge, DeLauro said. “They have to show the voters that they can govern. It’s one thing to win, it’s another thing to govern. And more importantly is how we address the real serious problems and challenges that people have in this country. This is very real. People have lost jobs. They have lower wages. They have no health care. Their house may have been foreclosed on and they can’t get their kids to school. Those are very real issues.”….”

“….Congressman Jim Himes (D-4) will return to Capitol Hill….Himes beat GOP challenger State Sen. Dan Debicella in a hotly contested race for Connecticut's Fourth Congressional District. The freshman Congressman won Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford. But, somewhat unexpectedly, he also took towns such as Weston, Westport, and Redding….His win surprised Republicans who banked on linking the 44-year-old with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. And that he won districts beyond urban centers also came as something of a shock, even to him….”

“…Democrat Chris Murphy defended his seat in the House of Representatives against Republican State Sen. Sam Caligiuri in the race for Connecticut's 5th District….With 60 percent of districts reporting results and Murphy leading by over 2,600 votes, Caligiuri conceded a little after 11 p.m….Murphy attributed his victory to a message that he described as "a vision of the future and not just complaints about the present."”
