Basically, the Blue states stayed Blue, the Red states got redder

and the few remaining "Purple" states (FL, OH, NC, IN, VA) went Red. It is this last point that is of grave concern heading into 2012. :scared:

4. colorado didn't do too miserably

we lost a couple dem reps, including mine, which was to be expected but bennet held the senate seat. at the state level, the dems held the governor's mansion and the state senate but lost the state house. i've still got a good, strong progressive representing me in the state house, tho

5. I was personally surprised to see

the blue districts in PA, IN and OH disappear along with some in TX and FL.

That could be the difference between Obama and a Puke in 2012.

7. Minnesota and Wisconsin turned redder

Both the state senate and house went Republican from DFL. The Senate for the first time since 1972. The governorship is in recount with former US Senator Mark Dayton going to eventually win by a narrow margin (few thousand votes). Wisconsin went really red, governorship, Fingold out, both parts of the state legislature, and they are down to only 3 Democratic members in the house.

9. You might take a look at Pennsylvania.

Republican Senator, Governor and House elected yesterday.

Up until now, PA had been trending much more blue than purple.

12. its desperation

an idealogical change is not happening. there isn't even a political party with any power that is addressing popular changes the majority of the public wants to see.

people are not becoming more conservative, they're just pingponging between two parties that have failed to effectively address the change they want to see. the answer isn't for democrats to become more conservative, which is what people like evan bayh are suggesting today.
