When will we be done feeling sorry for ourselves?
It's one mid-term election, there have been plenty before, there will be others. Nobody gets to always have their way. What's important is that we stay on our message also about wanting to fix the economy, protect civil liberties and keep corporations in their place.

If we just go around moping it makes it that much more easy for the GOP to push people around. It's not going to be easy, but if we just give up we're really gonna let things get bad.

Man up! (or whatever alternative of that statement you like)

5. What you've got nothing better to do
than feel sorry for yourself? If so then I feel sorry for you.

13. What do you mean?
I voted, I participated in GOTV, and I have been vocal in my day to day life trying to educate the misguided people around me that vote R.

No reason to feel sorry for myself.

But telling people to "Man Up!" (Really, we're borrowing language from Palin et al now?) is less than useless.

Thus the purpose of my response: And do what exactly. Acting all "tough" without any actual action is not going to help.

If you'd like to talk instead about how to take action to secure huge gains in 2012, then I'm all ears.

Since last night a lot of negativity's been posted, I don't think that's gonna get us anywhere. The republicans got lucky, they ran on a campaign of same ole, same ole and got rewarded, but we're different. Progressives can actually change, WE can actually learn from our mistakes rather than repeat them and repeat the consequences or depend on a lucky windfall, which is exactly what I think we should do and have posted a few times elsewhere. I'm no politician, but I think people will be less likely to vote for the dems if they all seem too melancholy and quitter-ish.

BTW "Man up" I think originates from the '70s actually.

2. I'm giving myself this one day to feel bad.
We are rid of Christine O'Donnell and Sharron Angle for now - that's something to celebrate :toast:. Rand Paul will dig his own grave with his nonsense. In 2012, the House will flip again.

3. There are grief cycles associated with loss that have to be experienced -
and they vary for each one of us....so it will take some time - and not the same time for all of us!

10. Heh
Maybe I was just expecting the typical American politics-as-usual, you watch enough of the 24-hour news networks then you know this stuff is always just going back and forth, back and forth..

4. We should get 24 hours of wailing and gnashing of teeth
Then we can get down to work on what comes next.

But for now, let us lick our wounds. :)

They're making quite the commotion, what with all the snipping and barking and growling and general tomfoolery.

9. Today people here are going to use the (expected) election results to wallow
in the same negativity and misery and endless criticisms they've done since February 2009. Let 'em, they need it for self-validation. The rest of us will pick up and move on.

15. Take the time to brainstorm. We need unity and discipline in action.
Two points were negatives: 1) mandated health care ("unfunded mandate"), and 2) bailing out the super rich elite. Whether or not those are proper characterizations is unimportant. We need a new package entirely, a populist, progressive package that will leave the right exposed, rally the elderly to our ranks and well as the young. 100% protection of Social Security and Medicare is critical! Let's not mourn, let's organize among friends and associates.
