Do you really want to know how to win?
Psssst! I'll tell you. (But I bet you really don't want to know)

The answer is to treat the electorate like the big bunch of dumbasses that they are.

"Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!", you say. "You'll never get them to support us by calling them dumbasses.

You're not paying attention. I never said to *call* them dumbasses. I said that is what they are, and that is what they should be treated like. That is exactly what the Repubs do, and it works.

Praise the wisdom of the common man. Pander to their prejudices. Simplify issues, and *STAY ON MESSAGE*. Don't do nuance. In other words, treat them like children.

3. Actually, that attitude is what helped us to lose
People aren't such dumbasses as not to be able to pick up on when they're being treated like one.

Think about how you feel when someone treats you like you're an idiot. Does that make you inclined to support them or oppose them?

7. Apparently not ....
The Republicans just played them for a bunch of rubes and they seem to have loved it.

12. you see what you want to see
voters have been saying the same thing now for six years, "we're sick of the bullshit and want a government that serves our interests"

Republicans didn't get it, they got tossed.

Now Democrats don't get it and they are getting tossed.

The public doesn't like either party, but they have no other tool to work with than "throwing the bums out". That's all the electorate can do. When one party or the other starts to work for the people of this country again, they'll keep power for a long time. Until then we are destined for round robin ejections of one party then the other, absent the emergence of a new party to break the cycle.

16. Yes. And it's interpreted as something less than completely moronic.
I don't know how anyone can make that particular leap of "logic". Unless they're channeling the average American voter from last night, of course.

"when one party or the other starts to work for the people of the country again, they'll keep power for a long time."

*I* say, "When one party starts to work for the people of the country again, the *money power* of this country will fight like Hell to see power wrenched from them as soon as possible."

Citizens United
Chamber of Commerce

Only a gullible electorate would be swayed by mere campaign ads. The American people are too smart to fall for that, right?

Swift Boat
Clinton Murders
Muslim President
Birth Certificate

What was that famous quote from Adlai Stevenson about needing a majority?

19. Oh yeah
Did I say it would be easy?

Our party right now works for the "money power", as you put it. Tim Geithner, Larry Summers, and the reappointment of Ben Bernanke prove it, as does the party's present approach to economic policy. The whole electorate can see that while Joe Average suffers, Wall St. is having banner years - and the leadership of the Democratic Party has no problem at all with that. But, oh! If you don't have health insurance we're going to fine your ass, as if you didn't have enough to worry about just putting food on the table and keeping a roof over your head in the middle of a Depression.

Just taking the small step of reversing those positions would go a long way towards winning back the electorate!

4. Not as simple as it sounds.
Treating the electorate like children works better when selling them a childish message.

"Whaa! They're gonna take your stuff. 'Cause we said so. We hate them, don't we kids?"

That's what you sell to emotional children.

"Hey gang, it's time to realize that we're all in this together. We have to look out for our fellow man and for the planet that we all depend on. In the long run, we'll all benefit."

Kids don't get that.

What America needs is grown-ups.

10. And where were our ads featuring George Bush ...
or Dick Cheney? Where were the simple slogans like "No Return to Bushonomics"; "No Tax Cuts for Billionaires"; "Keep Hope Alive"; "No Cuts to Social Security"?

15. Make them look you in the eye
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 03:42 PM by MuseRider
as you do it, just as you do a 3 year old that has been told already to pick up his toys but does not remember. Look them in the eyes so they remember what you say. Do not count on retention from a somnolent and very undereducated society.

EDIT: spelling good grief
