E-mail from Alan Grayson - he's not giving up!
Dear Mary Ellen,

One thing that I’ve heard a lot from people during the last two years is that I’ve been saying what you’ve been thinking. Well, since the election last night (which I lost), you’ve been saying what I’ve been thinking. So I’m going to turn over the rest of this e-mail to some of my Facebook friends, who wrote to me today:

“This is what happens when someone goes up against big corporations like insurance companies. They make sure that you don’t get reelected. Wake up, America!” - Cathy

“Don’t give up! Continue to fight! People see your passion, and believe in what you stand for.” – Rita

“You must come back! We need people with honesty, integrity and dignity! Thank you so much for all of your work, and especially your compassion!” – Susan

“Thanks for speaking for me so many times in the past, but I know we’ll need your voice more than ever now!” – Ellen

“I will miss someone like you in the House. You speak for everyday people!” – Aljorie

“You speak the truth and you are our hero. You are such an awesome leader. We are here to support you, harder and stronger next time.” – Pamela

“Yours is a rare voice of courage, decency and humor in a dismal swamp of corruption. I trust that you will be back in a role where you can do even more good. You have our great respect.” – Jon

“The future is awaiting you. One door closes, one opens up!” – Carla

“Please take some time for yourself and your family right now. Then regroup, re-energize and re-run!” – Christine

“Please keep the faith that we have faith in you. I have been delighted by your no-nonsense speaking of the truth.” – Angela

“All of us in America welcome your voice. You speak for folks like me, just an old granny with my grandkids trying to make a living and doing the best we can. Don’t stray far . . . America will be calling you back.” – Judi

“You are not done. You will continue to change and inspire the world.” – Tina.

“What do you want to do next? We are behind you 100% of the way!! Thanks for what you have done for us, and please know we progressives support your future endeavors. We need you.” – Renee

“You have a bright future as one of the most articulate and passionate voices on the side of what’s right. Keep up the good work. You have my admiration and gratitude.” – Eddie

“How can we help you come back in 2012?” – Keith.

To every one of you who helped, who spoke, who listened, and who cared, THANK YOU.

As Ted Kennedy said in 1980, after he lost the Presidential Primary, "the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."

We’re all in this together.

Courage,

Alan Grayson

3. In 2 years, he could run again for this seat
He was the first Dem to hold it in almost 2 decades, so I don't think there are many Dem candidates in that district who would be better. Also in 2 years, the Repukes in the House most likely will be unpopular, so Grayson could make a comeback. Clinton lost the governorship and came back to win it the next term.

36. He didn't even break 40%.
Simply not the type of performance that merits another chance, especially if we are serious about taking back the House.

41. you obviously know little about his history before he ran, the good he did to expose fraud in the
military, and then as Congressman Grayson, all that he did for the people. He was in a +2 district when Obama won along with him, and so, on a very bad year for Democrats, it's not shocking to see him get under 40% in that district. If we're serious about taking back the House, we need MORE people like him in all districts to run! I totally disagree with your thoughts on him. He can point out Webster's BS and lack of success when the time comes, and Obama brings out more voters, hopefully, in 2012.

4. Wish he added my comment as well
"Only morans would vote Alan Grayson out. He's working for the people! What a huge loss. I won't give up on him." Bryn

It's there. There are also so many ugly comments from repugs crowing about his loss.

5. He lost a battle, not the war.
The war goes on, and we're winning. History is on our side, no matter how many roadblocks the regressives put in our way or how energetically they may kick and scream. Human progress has continued uninterrupted for ten thousand years. The arrow of time bends in our favor, and this is ultimately a war we can't possibly lose.

Hope we see him again very soon.

42. In that long list of rules and regs...
... I must have missed the "do not copy previous title line." Or was it in the DU Ten Commandments somewhere?

At any rate, so veddy, veddy sorry to have offended delicate sensibilities. If I had a forelock, I would tug it as humbly as Uriah Heep.

Where do I make the appropriate sacrifice of penitence?

14. I think alan grayson should begin the work of creating a third party...
way to the left of the current democratic party. there must be dozens of progressive politicians who would sign on if the momentum were big enough.

as much as i wanted mr. grayson to win, this could actually be a great opportunity.

frankly i think mr. grayson does not even need to run for office, he just needs to lead the movement.

but like the teabaggers, who sprung up almost immediately after obama took the white house, the time for this movement is NOW.

did you hear that, mr. grayson? NOW.

and to back that up, i pledge $50 per month in perpetuity if you take up this challenge.

25. But the teabaggers did not form a third party to the right of the Republican party.

The formed a coalition within the Republican party that has enough power to seriously affect Republican policy.

29. I got the same letter, but I didn't quite understand what his next move was.
Why doesn't he first use he lawyer degree to kick a few elites around before running again in Florida? I don't think people are convinced he's a savior or an answer. If he's going to do things as a Liberal, he needs to show them how that will benefit them, because there were other Dem soi-disant Liberals who did nothing but tarnish the title.

33. He already did that before he ran for Congress.
He went after some of the Military Contractors in court and won. He did more than Congress all on his own, about the corruption involved in these wars.

I think that's why he was never popular with the party. They knew he was an honest man and when the majority are participants in a crime, they do not like the few who are not. Makes them look bad.

I think he should either run again, and/or organize progressives into a cohesive group who will work to primary those who are not working for us and elect more real progressives.

We are the only group in this country who has no organized group. Well, other than the Democratic Party. I think it's time to start building a liberal/progressive organization because it's clear it is needed to ensure we have voice which we at present, we do not.
