What’s next for Nancy Pelosi?

By Rachel Rose Hartman

“….The Republican Party made House Speaker Nancy Pelosi its Villain No. 1 this election cycle-- and it appears the strategy may have worked. Not only will Pelosi lose her speaker's gavel after a wave of Republican victories, she may not be able to remain her party's leader when Democrats become the minority in January....Pelosi was able to push historic legislation through the House in the last two years. But despite that -- or perhaps because of it -- her approval numbers have plummeted, and Republicans around the country campaigned for House seats loudly promising to vote her out of the speakership. Some Democrats even joined Republican criticism and pledged not to support her continuation in leadership...At first Democrats vehemently defended the speaker, saying she was absolutely certain to remain in leadership in January. But in recent weeks, more Democrats have begun to speculate that Pelosi could bow out gracefully and throw her support to Steny Hoyer, the current majority leader, when the Democrats shift to the minority. Hoyer is more moderate than Pelosi, and has a history of strong support from moderate and conservative Blue Dog Democrats in Congress. But Hoyer's Blue Dog support is uncertain, as many were thrown out of office Tuesday…..Rising stars like Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida and John Larson of Connecticut are also being floated as leadership material....”

1. She will write a book
Telling us all why the dems lost control of congress in 2010 and why it was Obama's fault and not hers.

2. I could get behind Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
She's a firebrand and would kick Boehner's ass all over the Capitol.

10. Debbie Wasserman Schultz & John Larson - Born to Lead
Give John Larson of CT's 1st District a chance. I have known the Larson family most of my life. They are good people and know how to fight in the political realm.

I also really like the fiery spirit of Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Both Debbie Wasserman Schultz and John Larson are not afraid to go toe-to-toe with these Republicans either.

Larson comes from a large family and was not born with a silver spoon. I just ran into Tim Larson, a State Rep from East Hartford the other day at Augie & Ray's in East Hartford. The Larson's have never forgotten where they come from or the people in their district.

4. Well I certainly don't want her replaced by Hoyer.
That would be terrible. If she does step down, we need someone else who is progressive and in a safe district. I think Pelosi did a fine job given a terrible set of circumstances.

5. Hoyer's not a progressive but he is safe
These internal elections are certainly secretive. If she does yield I'd bet it does go to Hoyer.

If that is true, she better stay put.

12. I read last week Nancy was safe. Guess that was last
week.

We probably need to pick someone using criteria other than what the 'cons will do or say.

... and not Hoyer.

6. Democrats should be ashamed to have not defended Pelosi..
The Repukes first made her a target because she's from San Francisco . then her hair do. She's been a fine speaker and the Democrats only problem has been they don't know who to attack the Right with equal fire power. Hoyer. Now there is someone is is bland.. And why worry about the Blue Dogs. Of all the Dem's , they took the biggest hit , with their ranks reduced by half. Who cares what they think.. Hoyer. I'd have a hard time getting energized by that kind of leadership. He's a big Free Trade proponent .

16. Aw, c'mon, Rocktivity. Stop picking on Pelosi.

Everybody knows the Speaker of the House is supposed to clutter up their speaking with constant boring references to protocol, etiquette, procedure and "We'll be doing the markup on Tuesday following the Senate's reconciliation."

What do we need a firebrand like Debbie Wasserman Schultz for? To win or something? Silly....

Besides, Debbie is more human. She smiles more. She's more appealing. What do we need some stupid thing like THAT for?

13. Well, there are less of them now than there was yesterday.
With their (D) seats no longer being used, maybe a true D will feel emboldened to run.

Every party needs to have its political tree pruned.
