Speaking as a ex-fundy, blaspheming the Holy Spirit is the ultimate step in denial because it is (according to fundamentalist interpretation) the only sin that is unforgivable.

The Xian response to this will be interesting.

I don't know how to link something, but maybe someone out there can help me? I know alot of us have seen the "blasphemy challenge" website, but in case you haven't OR if you want to see the ones behind this filth, they had a guy from ABC nightline interview them. I am almost literally shaking because I can't believe this is really happening. If someone can help me out that would be great! What can we do about this? Probably nothing right? It's free speech....free to have or not have religion in your life... I just worry about some people who are lost and then come across this and make the wrong decision! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! Im so upset~!

And that's the big deal for them. They've labeled every person who does not subscribe to their beliefs as "lost", (i.e. going to hell, bound for damnation).

Fundamentalists welcome persecution but tremble at the thought of mockery. It hits a fundamentalist much harder when you simply laugh at them and dismiss them. They really want you to hate or hurt or in some way "persecute" them. Nearly every one of them has a martyr complex.

asking for ways to stifle this effort to express religious views? "Probably nothing, right?" You could organize fellow believers and give an affirmation of your imaginary friend, as some are already doing. That isn't hindered by free speech. The only way that statement makes sense is if that guy is trying to find a way to stop people from stating their lack of belief in the Holy Spirit-Who-Used-To-Be-A-Ghost.

You are supposed to deny the existance of the Holy Spirit-Who-Used-To-Be-A-Ghost. My first thought was, "Why should I pick the Christian god to deny? I don't believe in any of those other gods, but I don't waste my time denying them." I don't feel like picking on Christians specifically.

That's persecution and that's exactly what they want.

This is dismissal through mockery. Much worse in their eyes.

And the other religions are not putting people into positions of control in the most powerful military in the world where they hope to bring about Armageddon and the return of Christ. That alone is reason enough to dismiss their beliefs as sheer lunacy.
