I say we make the marijuana prohibitionists put up or shut up!

Write a proposition whereas a yes vote = marijuana is equal to alcohol and whereas a no vote = both are illegal.

Whatever reasons they argue against marijuana there's plenty of scientific documentation to show alcohol as being worse and a more toxic substance. Based on the facts its a valid point.

So, IMO, maybe its time for the anti-marijuana crowd to put up or shut up!

1. I'm not a legal scholar, but I don't think that would work.

If someone doesn't vote for a proposition, the law remains unchanged. You can't change it by fiat and say that not passing a proposition would magically outlaw liquor.

That said, it's well past time to legalize pot.

3. Not really because its really not by fiat if you stop and think about it.

Its allowing the public to decide on it one way or the other. Simply call it something like public health & safety (soft intoxicants) initiative or something like that. LOL. :P

Anyway, the proposition would be under the guise of public health & safety, a totally valid point. Then force them to try and compare alcohol vs marijuana in this regard.

11. Right, but an initiative is a law. If the law doesn't pass, nothing changes.

As far as comparing alcohol to marijuana, you're preaching to the choir. I have no doubt in my mind which is the far more dangerous, lethal drug. And it's not pot.

Alcoholism is more dangerous than cocaine and heroin, I think that fact alone merits a serious debate about our legal intoxicant choices.

Simple as that. I heard a young woman interviewed on the radio who was a supporter of prop 19. She said she didn't vote because she had to take care of her dog. She was busy, you know?

8. I remember my folks talking about Prohibition

and the way that people drank, but still voted to keep alcohol illegal. Apparently, they used to claim that alcohol would stay illegal as long as people could stagger to the polls.

It all changed when just before an upcoming election the authorities went out and closed all the Speak-Easies (sp?.) When faced with not being able to get a drink illegally, people voted to legalize it.
