Fascinating and does not bode well for my blood pressure
two different electorates... one for presidential elections... one for off year elections...

EJ Dionne has a point... this will make GOVERNING a fascinating exercise.

1994 repubs take the house.

2006 Dems take it

2010 repubs take it.

2012, if the pattern is correct...

Gilded age, before the civil war...


the system is unstable.

3. I have always heard/read that young voters
turnout is too unpredictible. It may be that only certain general elections inspire them to turn out big.

I suspect there is a leader effect to this.

Alas this is not the case in OTHER countries.
