New Ohio Governor John Kasich starts putting his plan in action
already. He is facing a $8 billion shortfall next year and what is his plan? Cut state revenues by 40%, eventually eliminating the state income tax. Sounds like one tall order to me.

3. No I thinks he is going to perform some kind of magic
Looks like his first priority is to break the teachers union. Somehow he is going put more money in the classroom and spend less. He's going to shut down the Department of Development, it seems to me if you want to make jobs you may need a Department of Development. What he is going to do is what every Republican governor has done as far back as I remember. He will cut taxes and bankrupt the state then a Democrat will take office raise taxes and get things in order and be voted out for raising taxes the next election. That cycle has been going on forever in Ohio.

5. Yep. He'll just get the $ from liberal CA, like everyone else.
The Feds currently take $48B a year that they get in taxes from CA and distribute it to states other than CA. That builds a lot of bridges to nowhere, and it also covers a lot of holes in state budgets.

All so people who live in OH can make fun of CA, calling us a basket case and "fiscally disfunctional," while they are dependent on taxes paid by citizens of CA to make ends meet in their red state.

8. My state also pays out more than they get back
Perhaps the blue states need to stop this practice
and let the red states take care of themselves.
You know the old bootstrap thing they keep talking about

12. The problem is that there are only 17 "donor states,"
ie: states that pay out more in fed taxes than they get back.

That means that there are 33 "freeloader states."

That means that 34 donor Senators are up against 66 freeloader Senators when it comes to funding the pork that oozes from DC. The freeloaders have no incentive to stop the practice of robbing CA, MT, NJ, MA and other blue donor states to fund spending in their states, thus ensuring their reelection to multiple 6-year terms.

At the top of the list is DC, which gets $5.55 back for every $1 in taxes sent to Feds (but that's to be expected as that $5.55 pays for the government, and it's not like they have a Senator to blame). Next comes NM, which gets $2.06 back for every $1 they send to DC. Next comes Mississippi at $2.02, then Alaska at $1.84.

At the bottom of the list are blue states: NJ @ $.61, NV @ $.65, CT @ $.69. CA gets $.78 back for every $ sent to DC. See here: http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/266.html

CA paid out $47.6-Billion more in Fed taxes than it received back in 2005. For NJ, it was $27.4-Billion.

7. We are talking Ohio here, the voters were stupid enough
to vote another Republican governor in office just 4 years after Taft. I don't think they will have to cheat in 2012. I think Obama is going to have one tough uphill fight in 2012 with all the Rethug Governors that got elected yesterday.

10. Oh, It Gets Worse Than That
I just heard that Kasich is starting to build his advisory staff.............by hiring former TAFT advisors. This guy's gonna go down in flames. I just hope he doesn't take the entire State with him.

And yes, doc, you're right. Strickland lost his job because he was financially responsible and people hated that. Between Voinovich and Taft, they ran up Ohio's credit cards and then waltzed out of office laughing, leaving a huge, steaming pile behind. Then Strickland comes in and says, "OK, now it's time to buckle down and start cleaning up the mess," and Ohioans all whined, "But it was so much more FUN when the Republicans gave us free puppies and ice cream!!! We don't wanna pay the bills now!!! We no likey you anymore!!! Bring back Johnny Good Times!!!"

I saw a guy on TV (and I can't remember his name) last night explain it like this: "Americans desperately want to believe in the hot fudge sundae diet. They want to believe that they can eat hot fudge sundaes all day long and still lose weight. That's why they vote for the Party that tells them they can have tax cuts AND get rid of the deficit at the same time."

11. read it america - the face of extremism! i cannot believe people don't use critical thinking to
vote. They merely blamed who was in power, even though B*sh's policies broke this country's working class.
