Former NFL offensive lineman Jon Runyan is ready to be a rookie all over again.
Runyan, a 14-year veteran who played with the Chargers last season, beat freshman Democratic incumbent John Adler for a seat in the House of Representatives out of New Jersey's 3rd District. Runyan, 36, won behind a wave of Republican support in the swing district that runs along the Jersey Shore. The Runyan-Adler battle was the most expensive and competitive House race in New Jersey this election cycle.
In North Carolina, Heath Shuler, a former No. 1 draft choice of the Redskins, earned re-election to the House from the state's 11th District. Shuler, a Democrat, beat Republican challenger Jeff Miller by claiming 54% of the vote.
