Why is that Democrats are ALWAYS
expected to "compromise" and be "bipartisan" and are punished whenever they supposedly fail to be "bipartisan" enough yet the Republicans NEVER are? In fact, they seem to have license to be as ruthlessly partisan as they want whenever they are in power without any recriminations whatsoever. Nobody seriously expected Bush to be magnanimous towards the Democrats when the Republicans lost Congress in 2006 and he went right on thumbing his nose at them.

This question is partly rhetorical- since I kinda already know the answer- but it's also a serious question that I would like to see asked aloud by people more. There just seems to be a whole list of hypocritical "double standards" that have been built up over the years that seem to favor Republicans while penalizing Democrats and we all need to start calling out the people whom are pushing them on it (i.e. Republicans, lazy pundits, corporate media talking heads, etc)

4. Gotta love it..
When Obama was Elected it was "We will reach across the table and work with our Republican colleagues".

When Republicans take over the house it's: "Our first priority is to "get Obama". "We will be happy to work with Obama as long as he does what we want. We speak for the people".

7. Should be interesting on how this plays out.
Too bad the American populace , in general, is so unsophisticated. The next 2 years will witness the Republicans doing little to nothing, and then blaming the Democratic party. Sound familiar? The Demos will play into the GOP hand, instead of calling them out. You don't have to be an Einstein to figure how the body politics is played out in America. It should be obvious what is happening.

6. It is bullying.
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 08:44 PM by Jamastiene
If you ever pay attention, you'll notice that Republicans are consummate bullies. Their campaign strategies are mostly psychological warfare tactics. Even the tones in their voices are meant to intimidate people into doing whatever they want. They use subtle (not so subtle once you are aware of it) intimidation in everything they do. When they are close to a point where they are ready to achieve their agenda, they get more obvious with the intimidation and bullying for a while, then act all self righteous after they get what they want. In short, they are fucking psychopaths.

The change is going to have to come from us. We are going to have to start fighting back and standing the fuck up. Until we do learn how to train the Republicans to act right, what they do will continue to work for them and continue to stomp us into the dirt. We need to become more assertive and refuse to compromise unless they compromise too.

The truth is, things aren't going to get better under their rule. It will get exponentially worse under their rule. The LEAST we can do is refuse to give in to their whims and stick to it. It is the only thing they respond to.

Let's put it this way: We can either continue to give in to their every whim and continue going down the path to total destruction of this country, other countries, the planet and every species on this planet...or we can finally put our foot down and refuse to budge on anything they want until they learn how to fucking compromise and quit acting like spoiled brats.

The leaders in our party have spoiled them rotten. The Republicans need to be corrected and taught some damn humility.

Best bet: Send a nickel to every Democratic member of our government with explicit instructions to put the nickel between their knees and keep it there. Then train themselves not to drop the nickel and not to bend over and not to belly up when a Republican gets near them or enters the room with them. Our leaders need to learn to quit putting out every time a Republican demands it.

Then, if we really want to make some progress with the Republican Party, learn all we can about tough love and fundamentalist parenting. Apply those tactics to the Republican Party and become relentless and extremely cruel in our punishment of them. Don't back down. Be extremely strict with them. MAKE them behave. They will respond to that better than anything else.
