Origin of "Teabagger" label
I have a FB friend from high school who gets upset every time I refer to his ilk as "tea baggers." I have repeatedly countered that they called themselves "tea baggers" for weeks, maybe months, before someone told them that the phrase also referred to a sex act often associated with the gay community, and that I remember being back in Georgia in 2008, watching clips on the daily show and laughing til I cried. I've been able to find a lot of still photos of teabagger signs, but could anybody with more YouTube savvy than I have dig up some video clips of the early teabaggers actually calling themselves teabaggers? Thanks!!!

2. "Teabagging" is not really a gay thing
It's more associated with college students, often involving a passed-out buddy, a guy who puts his testicles on the passed-out buddy's face, and someone to take a picture of the event. It involves body parts used for sex but is hardly a "sex act," IMO.

And yes, the first commenter is right, there were many signs like "teabag the 'lib dems' before they teabag you."

If only the nation had listened to those who warned "Dick Cheney before he dicks you."

that I wrote that it was "often associated" with the gay community. Some of the early Daily Show-type commentary focused on this, and how it was especially funny given the baggers' unbridled fear and hatred of the gay.

Of course, some people use “teabagger” in innocence — unaware of any vulgar connotation. One such person is, or was, Gwen Ifill. Some of her NewsHour viewers wrote to complain. And Ifill later said, “Turns out I am the only person with access to email who never knew this was a term with a sexual meaning. I used it in an offhand manner as a shorthand referring to the ‘tea party’ movement. It was a slip I was unaware of, and I regret it.”

9. Origin of the term Teabaggers?
It came from the movement itself, when they asked people to "teabag" Obama by sending symbolic teabags, apparently ignorant of the college prank of the same name. This was all well documented, including here: http://www.lemondrop.com/2009/04/10/gop-wants-to-teabag-barack-obama/ If they don't want to be called Teabaggers, they shouldn't use "teabag" as a verb, as found on their t-shirts or signs which are easily seen in Google Images searches. It's pretty basic to call someone who teabags a teabagger, so I'm surprised some are now taking offense. Maybe there is a split between the teabaggers on this issue?
