Report from the real world.
It's not about the message. It's not about getting the message out.

Jobs. We need to get people jobs.

Then they vote for us.

1. So where or how should they do this?
I ask this because the private sector is the job creator in our country. And parts of the Adminstraton's programs, like small business loans and the Stimulus' green energy and infrastructure projects were intended to do that.

4. There's always carrying rocks from one side of the yard to the other
Hey, it's "honest work," right? All work has dignity, or so I'm told.

Jobs need to be magically conjured out of thin air by the millions. Everybody needs to be WORKING no matter what the hell they're actually doing on the job. I mean, what's the alternative? We can't ever, ever, ever consider just setting up a guaranteed income, can we? Naw, that would be evil and wrong. And the richest country in the world can't afford it. It would cost more than a year in Afghanistan!

Onward with the jobs, jobs, jobs. Jobs are the magical, mystical answer to everything and should be praised all the live-long day. Even if we have to work this world into the ground, onward with the jobs. Consequences be damned.

5. WPA
We need to spend government money, not cut back. Cutting back will be the quickest route to a depression ever.

6. There was no unemployment insurance in the 30's
and only local relief

Imo that's why they set up WPA as kind of a workfare program. Despite our crumbling infrastructure, I can't see Congress approving a federally operated program like that now. I think unemployment would have to be 40 million before they'd even consider it.

9. Too bad
We would sweep the 2012 elections easily if they did. It worked. It can work again. Unemployment insurance is barely good enough and destroys one's soul. Working is good for the soul and the electorate and those who are elected. Barring that, I'd be willing to set up a Guillotine building program and we can demo it on Wall Street. That would be great workfare.

:sarcasm:

8. People don't want loans
They want the burdens imposed by government to be lifted or at least mitigated - paperwork requirements and taxes, mostly.

For a small business typically the owner has to not only run the business but handle all the government requirements. Every requirement added to their burden not only takes away from the time that the owner has to run the business, but imposes a financial cost (whether as time or as taxes) that makes it more difficult to succeed.

If small business were paying 2% and the big corps were paying 35% (rather than the opposite, which is the current case) then we wouldn't have a problem generating new jobs at all.

3. We sure do ...
but it is not profitable to give people jobs. They would have to be paid and that can actually hurt profits. Better to tighten the belts here in the US and exploit the growing middle-class markets in other countries. Most companies are doing what they are supposed to: building up profits and paying their shareholders. They don't exist to help us, employ us, or any other sound or humane reason whatsoever. And don't even think about the environment or how today's profits and pitfalls will affect our species and future generations ... that's not ... well ... profitable.

The experiment now is to see just how many jobs one person can do, (taking on the work from laid-off positions) and how long before they wear out, go bonkers or drop dead.

Besides, the paucity of jobs gives big business a docile, groveling labor pool that is mailable and easy to subject to low and even unlivable wages. It's a win for the Overlords in every way.

Welcome to the new 3rd-World and the new Underclass Serfdom where almost everyone is insignificant.

7. That's what has happened
"Welcome to the new 3rd-World and the new Underclass Serfdom where almost everyone is insignificant."

Sad, unnecessary, and true. The well-armed former middle class is acting like a very confused Baby Huey.
