1) measure to prohibit courts in the state from using Sharia law
2) Measure to make English and Native American languages the official state languages (just no speakin' Mexican, dammit)
3) Voter ID law - gotta suppress the votes of the elderly and poor, don'cha know?

(just found this on the voter ID law: "According to State Election Board Secretary Michael Clingman implementing the proposed measure will cost approximately $90,000 per election. The cost includes officials for more than 1,000 precincts to check voter's photo IDs."
Great, just great - we have elections something like 6 times a year out here (which is ridiculous), so that adds up to quite a chunk of change, for one of the poorest states in the US.)

5. I sent congratulations to my brother yesterday. ..

He lives in Oklahoma and feels much safer now that he won't have to worry about Sharia Law anytime soon!! He and my mom just laugh at the whole thing - what can you do?? I imagine it must be frustrating though to go out and vote and know that your vote is essentially neutralized every time by people living in an alternate reality.

Look, by and large people either vote or they don't. In fact, it's usually easy to tell who they are. That is why campaigns by voter lists from past elections. You don't send more than one piece of mail to someone who hasn't voted in last three cycles. You send tons to people who have voted in every election the last three cycles (that is a simplification of the analysis).

How hard would it be to get a bus full of people and a list of people in every district who have not voted for three cycles and just drive around to every voting location?

The voter's name and signature would have to appear in the registered voter book at any precinct before they'd be allowed to vote. In our state we have a hand held database of voters so that if a person who shows up to vote is not in the book we can look up when and where they previously voted and either 1)direct them to the correct precinct where they would be allowed to vote; 2)establish their eligibility if they are in fact in the proper precinct and let them vote by affadavit; 3) tell them that their voter registration needs to be updated for name change or address; 4)advise them to reregister if they haven't voted recently and were dropped from the rolls because of inactivity. The scenario you are imagining couldn't happen. Voting is private and confidential and no one should be afraid to vote because their neighbors or friends or powerful interests (bosses) would prefer for them to support another candidate. There are some instances when showing your ID are required, but election workers aren't police and don't need to know (and don't have time to deal) with a voter's personal information.
