Would you ever run for office?
I'm seriously considering running for school trustee in the district I grew up (and went to school) in in 2014 or 2018. (We have our city elections every four years here, and we just had one on the 25th.)

How about you?

1. When MrG was here, and we had a two parent household, I thought
about it many a time. Now I can barely get it together to get out the door each day. Plus, with "everything that happened" it would be a huge non-skeleton that I would have a hard time dealing with emotionally.

15. You would make a good advocate.
You never know what the future holds. Maybe there is a place for you in public office in the future.

2. Good for you - go for it!
I'd consider a local office if I were unhappy with my representation. I'm currently not and think I have more of a voice outside the confines of office, but were that situation to change I'd consider a run for a local board.

I'm not good in front of a lot of people, and wouldn't want my past examined under a microscope either.

4. Go for it :)
It's funny I saw your post after making mine about wanting to run for something (of course mine is much more vague at this point, sort of an impulse post.) So, yes :)

6. Yes, I'm thinking about it right now, in fact.
First possibility is next year for the school board.

But given what it would take at first to run for likely an outstate city/county office as an "R" or Tea Party-endorsed candidate instead of a "D" or "I" nowadays....all I would have needed to do is move there, join the local Tea Party group and become very active in it, and wait a few years, then declare my candidacy and "liberally" pepper my speeches with keywords, for example "Socialism" "Entitlements" "Tax-Cuts" "Bible" "God" "Constitution" "Taking OUR country back" "morals" "terrorism" "Sharia Law" "Muslins" "libruls" ect...and I would likely be a shoo-in!

8. Wish I could but I have "skeletons" in my closet. In order to run for
office anymore, one must have lived a life of absolute purity. Mine doesn't qualify.

9. Seriously?
Yes. I would like to run for Congress. All it takes is $3,000. 'Course I haven't a rat's ass chance in hell of winning because I believe in full legalization of marijuana and prostitution, it would take the opposition about 5-1/2 seconds to find dirt on me and I'm not affiliated with any major political parties.

Maybe we should start a DU Party!

11. Nope. As the song goes, I've committed no crimes, but big mistakes
I've made a few. I doubt I'll ever be well enough to face the comments that a campaign for office would spawn about recieving in-patient and out-patient mental health care.

13. I've Considered It
Edited on Thu Nov-04-10 09:52 AM by ChoppinBroccoli
I've even been asked by several people to consider it, including by a couple of union members who promised that they could get funding for me if I ever decided to do it. I'm friends with several people who have run for Judge and won here in Franklin County (Columbus), and I'm friends with some of their fundraisers.

The only problem that I have is that I don't think I have the stomach for the mud-slinging. I wouldn't want to put my family through that. Plus, being human, I have a few black marks in my past that I wouldn't want to see dredged up. When I was a young lawyer just out of law school, I worked for a few rather unsavory/unethical attorneys. Sometimes I was told I wasn't getting a paycheck that particular week. As a result, I was forced to run up my credit cards just to survive, and I eventually had to declare bankruptcy. And as you can imagine, I also had some problems with unpaid taxes to the IRS. Now, all of those problems have been resolved and are several years in the rear-view mirror. But you just KNOW that the slimeball Republicans would bring them up ad nauseum. They'd probably even go find my scumbag former employers and have them appear on TV ads saying what a bad employee I was. And I just wouldn't be able to take that. I'd end up losing my temper or something and embarrassing my family.

My other problem is that I've been a career-long defense attorney, and voters only seem to like Prosecutors. So that's a problem too.

So, to answer your question, yes, I think about running for office often, and I even kind of know who to talk to in order to make it happen, but I just don't think it's ever going to become a reality because I'm human and have made mistakes in my past.

I've no fear of the skeletons in my closet, but even I know that they could be spun into something much worse.

You should go for it, though.

18. I would like to be appointed Czar of all the what evers BUT
I would be better off running for the county line. There is that misspent youth and too thin skinned problem as well. I would be asking baggers to name their seconds.

19. RUN! :-)

I ran locally and won for Inspector of Elections several times, then Judge of Elections.

I also ran county-wide for a seat on our Democratic State Committee, won in 2006 and was re-elected this year. (Am now also a member of the State Committee Executive Board.)

Do it. RUN!

22. I considered it 40+ years ago..............
for about 5 minutes. :) Too many skeletons in my closet EVEN THEN. Plus, I figured I would be assassinated. A socialist running in Alabama? Dead meat.

I did have a start though. I was on the board for a medium size construction union and had been a steward with another national construction union before that.

24. I would love to run for school board
but my liberal views would never get me elected in my small minded town. I am unelectable for any other office because of my "past", which was fairly innocent but not pristine.

It was a mostly-good 12 years, but I think I've done enough self-flagellation.
