Law professor: Ban on Sharia law 'a mess'

Tepker called the passage of the measure "a mess" with implications unknown until a case that challenges it arises.

"Many of us who understand the law are scratching our heads this morning, laughing so we don't cry," he said. "I would like to see Oklahoma politicians explain if this means that the courts can no longer consider the Ten Commandments. Isn't that a precept of another culture and another nation? The result of this is that judges aren't going to know when and how they can look at sources of American law that were international law in origin."

What is Sharia law, and how is it defined in the ban?

Businesses that engage with international companies may also find the ban is a stumbling block, Tepker said. The ban also requires all state business to be conducted in English.

my husband and I, who like living in Oklahoma for a variety of reasons (we have friends here, we don't blow our wad on rent/gas/utilities, we have clean air, no traffic, etc) can't wait to move next summer. I'm tired of being surrounded by dumb, racist, ignorant tools.
However, every other state has its share of dumb, racist, ignorant tools (um, Arizona, Wisconsin and Florida come to mind), so ya'll can get off the high horses already. So, please do quit kicking the good Oklahoma liberals while we're down. There are about 100 of us who have to live here for the same reasons anyone else has to live in certain places.

That is so true about so many awesomely beautiful places. I have been looking for beautiful places to possibly live someday-cheaply and with good land about--but too often it is the people's intolerance that has driven me away. OK is some beautiful country. Good luck to you. :)

I spent some time there, it is so polarized with Sedona, Fairbanks and Prescott areas pretty progressive, surrounded by the most conservative people I have ever seen...wow the prisons and the police are getting really scary out there too. I just have brown hair and get really dark in the Sun, and people were asking me my nationality. No kidding.
