Everyone needs to calm down
mid terms always have a higher turn out on the right and among the old ones. they are dedicated voters who show up at all elections. presidential elections bring out the dems though, and the young ones come out and vote more during Presidential elections. Obama has pretty good numbers, even while he sorts out all the bs with the economy. On top of that, we now have a delicious civil war going on among the right. Two bits says they have a third party candidate in 2012 splitting up their votes to hell. The POTUS has work to do for sure. He's gotten a lot done as have the dems...they need to get better at getting out that message.

1. Don't wish for that third party. I can still remember Wallace.
And I think he would have won if he had not been shot.

4. I remember Wallace, too
and how much of what he was doing was an act, playing to the rubes. He'd have been awful, of course, but far better than anyone on the left ever anticipated. Perhaps he'd have done what Nixon and Ford failed to do, rein in OPEC before it managed to destroy the economy with double digit inflation, setting the stage for 2 terms of Reagan.

I don't think he had a snowball's chance in hell, though, since this is a big country and a lot of it saw him as a hillbilly ranter and not fit for office.

We'll just never know for sure.

9. I remember worrying that the election would have
been thrown into the House. Even if a Democrat had won, it would have been divisive. Things were bad enough then.

I heard him interviewed and heard him speak under circumstances where a lot of people came to heckle him. He was not stupid. He was scary as hell, but not stupid.

24. I think he had a good chance. If he had the most electorial votes in the end it would
have been hard for him not to be elected. It would not be hard in a three way race.

Two words for you. Southern Strategy.

5. And in the next election
there could be a swing our way again. I don't think, in the political climate like there has been in the last 10-15 years, that we see one party having lengthy majorities. Going to be a lot of swinging back and forth, imo.

28. That's exactly what my husband says...
Though it hurt the morning after...

Toomey is said to be be worse than Santorum was -- and in his own words, Toomey has said he viewed Santorum as "mainstream."

So, yeah... a little personal whining here. Sorry. Just in a hurt.

11. sheeesh, all you were saying is telling people they "need to calm down", which is inflammatory.
People who need to be authoritarian and tell people what to do are the ones who "need to calm down".

Sheeeeeeesh.

13. so, we all just pull back and shrug our shoulders and let the catastrophe continue?
The controlling here is really something today. I expected it to be bad yesterday, but I guess there was a day's lag.

So, go on and blame those who are pointing to what brought us to where we are, and have been saying that for over a year and a half. Had we been heard, the disaster Tuesday would not have happened.

Flame away. I really no longer care. Which is exactly what has happened nationwide, and why you saw the results of that on Tuesday. Have at it.... blister me. I no longer give a rip.

Uh, that went in circles. But we do know how long people have been saying it and pointing it out.

15. I'm sure you can figure it out, if you really want to. We ALL need to voice our opinions on the
political process, which you were so willing to try to shut people up about.

And, telling individual people what they should FEEL is a very different thing from that.

I'm sure you are intellectually advanced enough to tell the difference.

16. I did figure it out and obviously you didn't like it.
Nobody asked you to shut up, I wonder why that was brought into the mix. Personal attacks seem to be the method today, perhaps tomorrow will be better.

17. Fail. and the "personal attacks" began with the OP,
You can keep going around in circles all you want... as I said, you have the intellectual abilities to figure it all out. Game it instead, if you wish. As we have seen, that gaming has been soooo productive for the party.

19. I don't see a problem with suggesting that people (and that would be SOME)
people - that ought to go without saying - should cool down and not treat this midterm as an apocalyptic event.

When people are immediately out there breathlessly wondering "Will Russ challenge in 2012? Will Dean primary Obama?"

or stating "Hillary was right about Obama!!11!!"

It comes across as overwrought.

No one has seen a single action taken to confirm that the President has capitulated to the Republican House. But tons of people have no trouble writing him off as already having done so.

I wouldn't want these hand-wringing Chicken Littles anywhere near me in a sticky situation.

21. The progressive left ought to be able to dictate to the rest of us
Including the Republicans. The DLCers (or whatever we are) should MAKE the Republicans obey the progressive left.

It's like being a servant. We are supposed to deliver to them what they demand, because they are the queens and kings, apparently.

Doing the same thing over and over (electing republicans) and expecting different results is insane.

So, you are saying the country is INSANE?
