Perry faces uncertain future

There was speculation Wednesday about what might be next for Jeffrey Perry, who gave up his state representative seat to run for Congress, but there were no answers from the Sandwich Republican himself.

Perry, who lost the 10th Congressional District race in Tuesday's election to Democrat William Keating, did not return messages requesting an interview Wednesday.

Perry, 46, was considered the best chance for a Republican to take over one of the state's 10 congressional seats, but instead of joining the national Republican wave, his candidacy was swept away in a sea of questions about his character.

His role in the illegal strip search of two teen girls while he was a Wareham police sergeant became the focal point of Keating's campaign. An officer under Perry's command pleaded guilty to sexual assault in 1993. But while Perry was never charged or disciplined, the story gained traction because his recollection of what happened didn't match public records.

"I would think he might want to try a new profession," said Todd Domke, a Republican columnist for WBUR's website. "Obviously, there are too many questions that he didn't adequately answer."

there was a SLEW of negative ads against Keating, mainly the faux group ones. Then one came out against Perry bringing that up and he was furious!

He kept trying to take the high road, saying how that they should stop running that ad. Keating fired back, saying have your people stop running the negative ones about me and I'll stop the negative ones about you.

Neither did. Glad Keating handled it like that.
