How President Obama Can Resurrect His Presidency
How President Obama Can Resurrect His Presidency
posted with permission from http://sane-ramblings.blogspot.com/2010/11/open-letter-to-president-obama.html

The intent of this letter is not to attack you but to help you redeem yourself and become the leader the American public desperately needs you to be.

But to do that, we must be candid about the situation. You took office promising to end the Iraq War in 16 months but instead you adopted the George Bush "SOFA" agreement in its entirety. Then you tried to deceive the American people by announcing an "end to combat operations" while continuing to commit the lives of 50,000 U.S. soldiers, plus a secretive 3,000 Special Forces plus a secretive 50,000 "contractors," all in support of a failed puppet government.

In Afghanistan, you keep another corrupt puppet government in power by committing the lives of 100,000 U.S. troops, another secretive 100,000 contractors and some undisclosed number of secretive Special Forces.

But Mr. President, if you feel these wars are vital, then propose a war tax to pay for them. This way each American will bear the cost and not just the families of soldiers sent off to fight.

Meanwhile, as President Bush had done, you sneak the dead and severely wounded troops back to America so the public doesn't see them, nor feel their loss, nor feel what their families feel. Of course the costs of these wars is now in the trillions of dollars and mounting.

Which brings us to the economy, another disaster.

In Britain, Prime Minister David Cameron told the British people they are on the verge of financial collapse and his government is dramatically slashing expenses, including those of their military. They are going to lay-off a half million people from public sector jobs and will raise taxes as they fight for their financial lives. The U.S. is worse off, yet you and the Congress keep spending money we don't have!

You have made a big issue out of the depths of the awful situation you inherited. But on November 22, 1963 Lyndon Johnson took office on board Air Force One standing next to the blood spattered widow of President Kennedy. America was stunned by President Kennedy's assassination and joined by the rest of the world in mourning for the sudden death of the charismatic young president.

Yet in less time than you have been in office, Lyndon Johnson overcame strong Southern opposition and got the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed. And in 1965 he got Medicare passed. He would also later get the Civil Rights Acts of 1965 and 66 passed, Civil Rights Acts that changed America and opened the door to your presidency.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt took office in 1933 in the depths of the Great Depression. And later he would lead America through World War ll. Like you and President Kennedy, he too had charisma and he used it to communicate regularly with the American people during his "fireside chats," over the radio.

On February 23, 1942, just 21/2 months into World War ll, he gave his famous "Map Speech" in which he told Americans how bad the war was going and asked them to follow along with him using their own maps to understand where the fighting was taking place. He didn't deceive them but instead built trust and confidence as he explained the situation and assured them of their government's actions.

President Obama, these are all examples of leadership. We don't need any more pep talks from you, we need you to rise to the occasion, as America is now under the control of lobbyists whose influence you had promised to reduce.

We need you to be candid with us and to implement a plan to help us resolve our financial problems, not try to spend our way out of them by going ever deeper into the quicksand of debt. This will mean slashing our expenses, raising taxes and getting out of the wars and out of the grip of the military industrial complex.

And out of the grip of Wall Street lobbyists. Despite one of the biggest financial collapses ever, there is no new oversight to prevent the actions that caused this economic meltdown from happening again, nor was anyone held accountable. The big bonuses continued and it is business as usual. We also have for the first time in our history giant banks and corporations "too big to fail." All of this leaves taxpayers subject to future bailouts. What are you going to do about that?

Mr. President, you have often expressed your respect for President Abraham Lincoln and now it is your turn to do as he did and lead America in confronting the difficult issues of the day. You were a novice when you took office but not anymore. It is not too late for you to become a great president. Rise to the occasion and the American people will support you. Make us proud of you.

1. Again, the downside of blogs.
They make anybody think that they're somehow an expert, or that their opinion is relevant, even when they're just regurgitating their deluded personal opinions.

23. Then I guess you haven't been listening much.
Though I concede that most of my time on DU is spent debunking nonsense, lies, and horseshit.

8. But, TheWraith, he is an expert.....
He warned of the financial collapse, back in November of 2007, and everything he said has come to pass. Have a look:
<snip>
...as the dollar's value will get cut in half, real estate will lose 1/3 of its value and millions of people will lose their jobs.

As a veteran businessman and long term investor, I offer you suggestions to help protect you and your family and as many other people as you and I can reach.

Soon, everything you buy in dollars will cost more. The price of gas is just the start, and that price will fluctuate up and down, but the long term trend will be up.

And with it, so will the cost of groceries and other products you buy because the rising fuel prices make it more expensive to deliver them to the markets.

Those businesses not in a strong enough position to pass along price hikes will either fail, or have to slash expenses such as by laying off employees...

From How To Protect Yourself From The Coming Financial Crisis
Dick Kazan Posted: Tue Nov 20, 2007 5:17 pm http://sane-ramblings.blogspot.com/2009/04/how-to-protect-yourself-from-coming.html

These factors were in place long before President Obama took office. The problem is, we need a President who will explain to the American people just how deep the shit we are in is, and without massive changes to military/war spending and tax hikes, we are not getting out of this mess. Does he have what it take to tell us the truth?

12. No. An infinite number of bloggers at an infinite number of keyboards will eventually be right...
...about SOMETHING. In that case, he simply predicts an economic downturn without any accurate suggestions as to WHY. He also predicts that taxes would go up after the 2008 election. They went down. He also suggested everyone should best invest in real estate in order to hold on to their money.

14. Thank you for the statistics and probability lesson...
But seriously, do you think the president can move this country and its economy in the correct direction, while continuing to pour 1/2 our money into Iraq, Afghanistan and weapons for future wars?

9. Really? How is a war tax, bullshit?
How is realizing that the economy will NEVER get better as long as we spend 1/2 our money on wars and weapons?

Huh?

7. Well that depends on whether he is completely dead or mostly dead...
Edited on Thu Nov-04-10 02:25 PM by Ozymanithrax
There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.

What's that?

Go through his clothes and look for loose change.

So what you need is Miracle Max or Lightning, dead body parts, and Igor.

Then we would have a Frankenbama...

13. So what you are saying is President Obama has to make no changes to...
his policies to insure a second term in office from the American people?

And if not, what changes do you suggest he make?

A 24/7 media drumbeat of how awful the dems are and how great the pukes chances are produced a predictable mid term outcome especially with great dems like you working so hard to help get Dem's elected!!

20. The pukes?
I want President Obama (whom I admire and respect) to move in the other direction from the "pukes" tried and failed policies.

We need to get out of the wars we are in (and cannot be "won" btw), to cut military spending in half, and to raise taxes on the rich.

Those are not the solutions proposed by those criminals that go by the term, GOP.

16. Anyone who said, in 2008, "the republicans are finished" was just being stupid.
Likewise...anyone who says now, "Obama can't win re-election", is being just as completely stupid.

Listening to the presser yesterday, it basically boiled down to the White-house setting the stage for the pukes to look like they want to do nothing but vote against his policies, and beat him up in the press more than they actually want to do anything to actually fix the economy.

It might work or it might not. If the economy is still fucked in two years, the U.S. electorate will be pissed off again and vote against whoever the mainstream media has convinced them to be pissed at, just like every cycle in Congress.
