We have to brace ourselves for a down and dirty fight, not be psyched out or baited into losing our solidarity. I think we have to focus on OUR wedge issues, and stay away from the wedge issues of the Republicans. Democrats have to unify, and by doing so unify as much as the country as possible. I can hope that President Obama would hear our unified voices, if he wants to win in 2012.
Here is how I see it. Republicans are keeping us in an argument loop that keeps us spinning our wheels by focusing on women and gay rights, abortion, religious agendas that we will never win with them. They found this out a long time ago and it's time we stop playing into their hands. These issues are the PRIZE we want when we win the war, these issues are so near and dear to our hearts they go after them first. We have to keep these cards close to our chest and use some ruthless strategy that will ASSURE Republican defeat. Republicans are baiting us with human rights issues to keep our focus off their financial issues, because they have NO DEFENSE against their crimes. They have no clothes when it comes to their crimes.
I think the most potent wedge issues are: dirty money, the poor, and labor laws, outsourcing, treatment of veterans and war profiteering. We have to pick issues that we have in common with the right, frame all discussions about how we are all in the same boat. These issues will force a wedge between all people with a conscience (and 2 brain cells to rub together!) with those who are too stubborn to mess with.
Please please please do not for a second think I am saying do not talk about women or gay rights, or the poor, or civil rights for any group, that needs to be happening at the same time, I am trying to convey a major offensive, and when you have a major offensive you PROTECT what is most precious to you. In this offensive we are on the attack, not on the defense, so we will attack their weakest place, their crimes. In this offensive we stand unified, as one, equal, and not allow one group to be singled out. I hope I am being clear here.
Human rights issues are what drives me to log onto this site. I want to win. We have to figure out what Republicans are trying to avoid, what they do not want us to do, and do that. That is going for the jugular, and if we don't they will have ours.
Just some thoughts, I had to get it off my chest.
