(This is a generic use of "he", so don't bombard me with cries of "sexist".)

Think about it. If somehow we could emplace an effective jobs program, get universal health care, and IMPROVE SS benefits, would Mr and Mrs Shmoe still be that upset about their current rates?

2. I doubt it...lots of people never think they're getting their money's worth...whether in taxes
or what they spend on stuff they consume, like shopping or hotels, etc.

4. Okay, but whatever happened to taxes being one's patriotic duty?
I was raised to believe that paying income tax was my admission fee to participation in the republic.

5. and it probably is, but still...
there will always be people who might not mind paying the taxes IF they go toward supporting things they personally like.

An example...

Charge me a quarter for an all-you-can-eat dinner of fried liver and I don't care HOW much you give me. I'm not going to like it.

6. Some people will always be bitter if they think their neighbor is getting
something they're not entitled to, even if it's the dole after he becomes disabled or chemotherapy if he gets cancer. They want it too, dammit, or it's just no fair!

These people are children and should always be ignored by any sane government.
