Hello Palin, buh-bye sanity.
I'm sorry, I really, really am - but I also want to be the first to say it, just for the record.

If things don't change drastically, it's going to be Palin in 2012. Gee golly, you betcha.

No, I am not a RW troll or anything like that. I want to be wrong about this in a huge way.

So go now, make me wrong. We have two years. We need to do *whatever* is necessary to make this post wrong.

And that includes exploring the possibility of what Mr. EarlG said in my signature.

2. The only way that would happen
is if the rank-and-file Repubs intentionally want to throw the election.

3. Nothing short of a planetary catastrophe could make
her President. Understand something, Palin thinks her shit don't stink. That may be fine on the lecture and support circuit but do you really think the powers that be are going to let someone in there who they can't control? Judging from the bits and pieces that dripped out during the 08' campaign Palin is not a team player. And the Repukes will not put someone in that they can't control.

The threat of a Palin Presidency is not going to scare anyone. It will never happen.

4. Just because the GOP runs her, doesn't mean the US will vote for her
People always cite Reagan - but he had experience as a 2-term Governor of California.

All the folks who voted for Reagan were Hippies feeling guilty - different circumstances this time around.

The only time Palin could win would be if there were literally NO OTHER CANDIDATES

14. Look - I am not saying all Sixties Hippies turned Republican
I am not even saying most hippies

But a 5-7% of hippies might have voted for Reagan out of guilt. Think about it: the hippies' enemy was Ronald Reagan. He was president of California at the time, and he had a 'shoot hippies on sight' policy. He bought into this Soviet Hippies v Real Ah-muricans' BS.

And that's enough to tip an election - espectially since all those Teabaggers? They're all in their 70's. They were the other side to the hippies. If you want to see the true culture war ala 1968, see the Kerry/John O'Neill debates on Dick Cavett. John O'Neill is one of who make up the Teabaggers today.

Remember that name, John O'Neill, he was the head of the whole Swift Boat Campaign in '06.

The same fucking war is being fought over and over again.

It's the Vietnam War - only its not US v Vietnam but Hippies v Establishment.

20. I'm not sure I even know what guilt you're referring to
but anyone that voted for that piece of shit Ray-Guns oughta be the ones feeling guilty . I guess the small percentage of people who were hippies and then turned into right wingers just were extremists in their inner makeup, and when they discovered some less than perfect aspects of 60's hippiedom (and we were nothing if not imperfect; we were after all just kids really; I still am constantly trying to learn and redefine exactly what I believe and believe in, although my core beliefs sprung from what I learned in and from the 60's) they ,I'm guessing, saw no shades of gray and responded to disillusionment, too many drugs etc., by swinging politically all the way to the other extreme. Just a theory or even a guess. From nothing but my own personal experience, as I and my old hippie friends approach or pass our mid fifties and beyond (I'm 59), I am pleased at the very high percentage that have , while making inevitable adjustments over the years, have lived, and continue to live their lives without abandoning the values we tried to live by back then.
I wish I had some anti-ROFL emoticons to cancel out the ones I posted disrespectfully in response to you earlier. I'm just overly sensitive to the disparagement of something very good and positive and utterly decent, if sometimes terribly naive, that I participated in, in my own insignificant way, that I see occasionally (but fortunately only occasionally) on DU . That disparagement is not, in my opinion, based on an accurate understanding of those times and of those who believed deep in their/our hearts that a better, more humane, peaceful way had to be found of living and relating to humanity and all living things and were groping in the dark for that better way. It is in the interest of the right wing to mock us and claim we all sold out etc, as if believing in peace, love, sharing, etc. is just a silly juvenile phase to go through before growing up and becoming a good responsible conservative. Did we have turncoats and sellouts among us? Hell yes, but again, from nothing more than personal experience, those numbers are much lower than the right would desperately like America to believe.
I don't think I answered your question at all, probably, but I hope my words have at least contributed something of value. abq e streeter / Ron

6. All I can see
Is since Election night 2008 Palin has had this look on her face like she knows she's going to be elected president on Election 2012 2012. But she's going to be sadly disappointed. She thinks she's more electable than she actually is.

8. We do NOT primary a sitting Democratic Prez.
Obama has done a lot of good things, perhaps he has not done as much as I would like - but he is SO much better than GWB and better than McCain/PALIN would have been.

If they want to run Palin, fine.
I frankly believe that enough Americans would turn out to vote that Palin would be defeated. Your fears are duly noted.

9. I am wretching because for the first time I agree with Karl Rove, but she's unelectable.
Personally, I hope the GOP goes over that cliff and nominates her.

Although Obama's safety would be in even more jeopardy, it would assure a Dem win.

16. Nope
The Bloomberg Business News magazine has a cover story that is titled "Why Business Doesn't Trust Her". That title is superimposed over the dimwit's picture.

The megapowers do NOT want her in power. She has no support and the tea partiers are NOTHING when the money train pulls out of the station.

She is a useful idiot. If she gets too froggy, she will no longer be useful, merely an idiot.

I NEVER buy Bloomberg, but i bought that issue just to see what i said. I read it on the plane.

The big biz guys will nominate ANYBODY to be the repub candidate before they let that idiot get the nod.

And, they have been expert in getting the empty suit THEY want since Reagan. They aren't letting that tool represent them.

You overestimate her, and you underestimate the power brokers behind the conservative movement. The real movers and shakers aren't Norquist, or his ilk. It's not AEI or Heritage. It's the people who fund them, and those are the very people Bloomberg is talking about.

She is a non-threat. It's the next useful idiot who actually doesn't have their own ideas, no matter how stupid, they want.
