Could the Teabaggers shut down the government?

I heard Matt Taibbi tonight saying that Demint would consider allowing the Debt Ceiling to be raised to prevent default.

Taibbi said that that move would lead to a revolt by the new Tea Party reps and possibly the shut-down of government.

Could this happen, numbers-wise?

Most Republicans won't. But if someone like Demint or Rand Paul decided to filibuster any attempt to raise the debt ceiling, they shut down the U.S. government.

Without the ability to borrow (increease Debt) the government very quickly is unable to cash checks, servcie debt, pay the mlitary.

When the Republican's shut down the Government under Clinton the concern was that if you did not pay the military, you violate their contract, and they can all leave. It would be a big fucking deal if they do this.

"tough talk" is really meant to fend off Demint more than intimidate Obama.

A single member of the US Senate can shut down everything.

I think there is about a 99% chance that one of these crazy fuckers will do this.

No postal service, Social Security checks, Medicare payments.

They will hold the most vulnerable U S citizens hostage.

I think it is like the rest of voting etc you have to have a majority in the House. And the senate has to have that60 vote thing.
