1. I loved that stuff when I was a kid. 'Chariots Of The Gods,' etc...
It's still interesting. But it's bullshit.

3. It is good for fiction though
and I mean for fiction lines...

Yes I have done the human alien hybrid!

And the Aliens have ben fucking with humans since at least 20K BCE...

For that they are GOOD. Why I have it in the background... but this one ircked me. Not only that. They showed Teotihuacan to pass for the Aztecs!

At least they did not go into the meaning, city of the gods! Then 19th archeologists had a sense of humor.

2. Hysterical! My husband actually believes that aliens built the pyramids.
I still love him though (our 9th anniversary was yesterday :)). He doesn't vote, thankfully. He wanted Linda McMahon to win because he used to watch the WWE.

4. I see no other explanation for the pyramids or many other
structures around the world.

6. I do, ancient engineering was amazing
they should show the program they have produced on how the pyramids were built and how the stones were believed to be moved for Stonehenge.

Just because they were the ancients, does not mean they didn't understand mechanical advantage.

10. It wouldn't be possible today to build the pyramids without the
the largest construction equipment available and the cost would be mind boggling. We built an electric steelmaking furnace at my company a few years ago. Some parts with weight similar to the stones in the pyramids took the largest construction cranes available in the world to put in place, there were just a fraction of them in number since they came prefabricated and it took over a year to build it.

11. I know the argument
and if people want to believe it that is ok.

To me this is good and very entertaining fiction.

13. You forget what I did for ten years
what you think we didn't at times use heavy equipment to do some of the rescue? Yes that includes cranes... as well as dental equipment. We run the gamut, especially in confined rescue.

Now as to knowledge lost for centuries absolutely, the middle ages are the example in the Western World.

16. It's amazing what people were capable of even a century ago
when you consider what machinery was available at the time. We have a suspension bridge in Wheeling WV that was built back in 1842 and they finished it in 8 months. A few years ago it took more time than that to put a new deck on it and a paint job. You ever see the documentary on the Hoover Dam and the primitive machinery they used at that time? But the pyramids I can't even comprehend how you could build them today.

17. The history channel had a special on that
using locals to try to figure this out. Why I wish they ran it more often... it was an amazing thing to watch.

That and... Stonehenge.

Now I don't think that there are no other civilizations... there are I am sure... and as we find more and more extrasolar worlds and are able to detect atmospheres we will find life beyond Sol...

I think humans are far more amazing than we give them credit for. Part of the problem is that we like to think since we mostly will not do this others could not. Now to lost technology. We sent Atlas rockets to the moon. that is what two generations ago? NASA cannot build that rocket right now. They literally lost the plans. No, I am not kidding... they misplaced them. So we would have to start from the beginning. So have we lost technologies? You could say we lost the Atlas rocket... and that is not that far in the past.

23. And that is the point, isn't it?
So just because we cannot do something right now don't mean little green men from Gliesse 586 Charlie, were involved in the process, now does it?

(Yes Gliesse has terran sized worlds IN THE Life-zone)

20. Well here is a true story for me
When I had to learn about Pulleys in Physics class... it was like complicated and not understandable.

When I had to BUILD pulley systems for rescue it was the AHA moment. I think there is something like that at work. People today used cranes, and while cranes at times use pulley systems I am betting most of the operators do not have that close understanding of them that comes from setting a system together and testing it before sending people over the side. The same goes for friction. Nothing like depending on that (on a rescue eight) to stay alive.

"...could the ancients have had such an advanced understanding of both physics and astronomy?"

Just because some dopes have absolutely no knowledge of either science, they opt for something they can understand...extraterrestrials wearing football helmets!

22. The War Channel is how I call them
Edited on Thu Nov-04-10 11:52 PM by AzNick
Nothing but War, War, War. Yes, Wars reshaped the political aspect of things, but peace is when true social progress occurs.

Also how many times can we see Hitler At Nurnberg?

person could cause so much death and destruction. I have a picture of me standing on the reviewing stand in Nurnberg where Hitler stood doing the salute. I don't play dress up in a Nazi uniform yet though.
