Why every vote counts, part 2.

I posted earlier that my state rep won by 15 votes out of 50,000. It gets better. The Republicans are one vote away in the Texas legislature from having a two-thirds majority, which would allow them to pass constitutional amendments and use the Rainy Day Fund (pretty much what it sounds like) unchallenged.

In other words, those fifteen votes, out of the millions cast in Texas, are keeping the Republicans from completely uncontested rule in Texas.

Every vote, every phone call, every bumper sticker, everything, can make the difference.

1. You're right! My rep has a 3500 vote lead, but...

there are 9,000 absentee ballots yet to be counted.

Everyone assumes he'll still be winning after all are counted, but the phone banking and canvassing we did out here was a large part of his winning the toughest fight he's had.

2. Another every vote counts story...

This one makes the same point although the outcome isn't as good. (We ended up w/Olympia Snowe because of it).

Olympia's first husband, Peter Snowe was a member of the Maine House of Representatives in the early 70's when he was killed in a car accident. Olympia was reluctant but eventually agreed to run for his seat. She won by 1 vote and has been in politics ever since.

But there are many other stories such as this that work out to our advantage so it's good to remind people of how important their 1 vote can be/is. Thanks for posting yours Jobycom. I didn't see your first one, so can you post a link?

3. illinois governors race is still not officially called

the dem leads by 19,000 votes but the absentee votes in cook county have`t been counted. the state does`t certify the votes until december 3.
