Poll question: Which of these Obama accomplishments were Republicans campaigning for?
I keep reading on DU that Obama TOTALLY CAPITULATED to Republicans with endless compromise. Of course, Obama's progressive proposals were watered down, often by conservative Senate Democrats. There was never a progressive majority in the Senate.

That being said, I assume total capitulation would mean that Obama passed bills Republicans were asking for. Which of these conservative agenda items passed by Obama were at the top of the GOP wish list? Which accomplishment makes Republican leaders cheer the most about getting exactly what they wanted?

1. Like Fox news, folks don't need specifics, just generalities and
slogans. It works both for the right and the left.

He didn't close Gitmo....
but then, enough Democrats wouldn't vote for it....twice.

But remember, in the end, everything is that one man's fault,
even the oil spill!

3. Right.
"everything is that one man's fault"

I'm still amazed at those who seem to think Obama is the only elected official in America, and that anything can pass the Senate if only the President gives more angry speeches.

8. Minor edit for you...
"But remember, in the end, everything is that one black man's fault,"

Clinton was far more centrist and never got this level of shit from his own party. I'm done tiptoing around the obvious cause of the double standard I'm seeing 'round these parts.

5. Sorry I ran out of room for some things.
Like ending Bush's torture policies, and taking student loans out of the hands of bankers. Anyone should feel free to add to the list.

7. "Ended major combat operations."
Bullshit. The 4th ACR deployed thousands of combat troops to Iraq just weeks after Obama's announcement.
"Significant" Wall Street Reform? Toothless if no one is going to enforce it anyway.

I could go on but why bother. You're a "radical activist". You're out there in the streets fighting with the people. You should know what its like.

15. Lol "toothless" That's why Warren joined the administration and that's

why Wall Street spent tens of millions on the campaign.

Hopeless.

17. There are always ways to speculate and imagine the worst
for every bill or action. Obama supporters are generally realistic that nothing is going to be perfect. I'm not sure if you,
1) Have unrealistic expectations about things being perfect, or
2) Use the lack of perfection to justify your hatred for Obama, which exists at a level deeper than the issues.

I'm radical enough that I don't expect any single authoritarian leader to solve all of our problems, and so I'm not disappointed when that fails to happen. Someone who reads often should have that basic understanding of American politics.

19. I'm thinking number 2
One can always find an imperfection. The war in Iraq is over. Saying it's not is like claiming the Korean War is not over (bases in Korea) or World War II is not over (bases in Germany and Japan).

26. BS. There is a big difference there.
Those bases in Korea aren't facing mortars flying over the wire. Many of the troops there drink alcohol and have fun. Also everyone I know that was in the Army that was in Germany had a blast. People re-enlist all the time to get in places such as Germany, Korea, Japan, etc.

While "major combat operations" may or may not be there, there are troops still over there and I bet anything transportation units are still there. They have to drive up and down those dangerous roads to pick up and bring back the supplies. That is in noway comparable to Germany.

Yup, "ramming" a bill "down their throats" is "capitulation" at it's finest. Yup. Uh huh.

16. It also sounds timid.
Kind of like how giving two major speeches to Congress and appearing on nearly every show on television is timid. :eyes:

22. It's interesting that
the usual talking points are not making much of an appearance in this thread. The presentation of facts reveals how flimsy the knee-jerk narratives are.

23. It is interesting, isn't it?
It reminds me of a discussion I've been having with a long time friend who is a Pubbie... that we managed to remain friends is, I think, a testament to the both of us actually acting like adults;)

He's always moving the goalpost, so I've become quite adept at getting out in front of his RW talking points. He usually just stops replying because I never, ever lose sight of the goalpost.
