Kasich: Passenger rail is 'dead'

"Passenger rail is not in Ohio's future,'' the Republican said at his first news conference after Tuesday's win over Gov. Ted Strickland. "That train is dead."

Guess where this douchebag made the announcement...

Kasich held his briefing at the headquarters of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, which broke a 117-year tradition by endorsing the former congressman from Westerville.

Lovely eh?

Update 1 w/linkyness

From the way back machine:

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland joined U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, state and local officials, and rail supporters from across the state to announce today that Ohio has received $400 million in federal stimulus resources to invest in passenger rail.

UPDATE 2: 8,000 jobs gone

"With today's historic announcement by President Obama, Ohio takes a major step toward modernizing our state's transportation infrastructure," said Governor Strickland. "The 3C Corridorwill create economic development opportunities and serve as a model of environmental sustainability. Most importantly, it will put thousands of Ohioans to work over the next few years."

The $400 million stimulus investment in the 3C "Quick Start" is expected to result in at least 255 immediate construction jobs over a two year period. According to job-creation formulas by the U.S. Department of Commerce, this investment in Ohio will generate at least 8,000 spin-off jobs and could add at least $1.2 billion to Ohio's economy.

2. That pile of shit in New Jersey did the same thing...
a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River would reduce trip time by up to a half hour and the construction would add thousands of jobs and a few billion into local economies.

The project had been in the planning stages for years, the last 10 seriously, but after everything was finally in place, this shitbag just canceled it all by his lil ol' self.

But that rule only applies to those who serve their constituents . Clearly these asshats only serve their owners and are not beholden to us.

MADISON - Outgoing Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle on Thursday ordered contractors to suspend work on a federally funded high-speed train line connecting Madison and Milwaukee while his administration considers the potential impact of killing the project.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Frank Busalacchi said work on the $810 million project was being interrupted for "a few days" after Tuesday's election of Republican Scott Walker as governor. Walker has vowed to stop the project, which he calls a waste of taxpayer money.

"In light of the election results, our agency will be taking a few days to assess the real world consequences, including the immediate impacts to people and their livelihoods, if this project were to be stopped," Busalacchi said in a statement.

I had heard that some of the work of making the trains would be done in Milwaukee creating jobs.

24. These governors keep looking for their very own "Bridge to Nowhere"
but what these dumbasses don't understand that Ohio and New Jersey - these projects created jobs and created a new form of transportation for thousands of citizens of their state.

There was no value with that bridge in Alaska.

26. This is going to happen across the country in states where Republicants were elected.
Younger people are going to wish they had gotten up and voted when there are no jobs for them.

And the seniors who voted Rethug are going to regret their decision when it comes time for supplemental assistance to seniors (such as the "circuit breaker" program that can help provide assistance with medical or prescription expenses).

It's a shame the Dems in these states have to suffer the mistakes of the independent/moderate/stayhomers.

28. The future of this state is dead.
I can't get my mind around how fucking stupid the people of this state are. They elected this asshole to see just how far backwards we can go. I swear the people here worship failure. My own father is one of them. People without a pot to piss in voted for the guy that's responsible for taking the pot.
