The October jobs number (AKA, "Oops, America. You f---ed up.")

September jobs number revised upward from +64,000 to +107,000.

October comes in at +151,000.

+258,000 jobs in the past two months.

If these numbers would've come out in June and July instead of September and October, Democrats would still hold the House.

Politics is a matter of timing.

6. There was - I used to work in it.
I met few Prima Donnas and Donalds (they were mostly TV anchors at the time) and far more reporters interested in ferreting out truths rather than ranting about "libruls" for our corporate overlords.

4. revised UE numbers wouldn't have made a difference
The big picture on the economy is that it sucks right now and whatever those numbers were wasn't going to change the situation.

7. meh
I disagree because it takes a lot more to get the attention of the sheeple who are caught in the spin cycle.

But this trend will give the Dems a bit more leverage as we get ready to battle the demons from the seventh circle of hell.

8. Do they ever explain the pay for these jobs?
Are they low pay jobs? Jobs that pay middle class wages with benefits? Or did McDonalds open 10 more stores?

9. Oh, the R's would just say "it's because our victory was assured"

11. It certainly wouldn't have hurt...
...but there's no way we would have held the house because of it.

We might have lost 62 instead of 65 (+/-)... but the perception of the economy is usually set months before the elections... and a monthly jobs report isn't a big enough deal.

12. Though these numbers are a good start, it is not enough
for people to start feeling any difference. There are a ton of 99ers and other unemployed who are no longer counted. These numbers are not bad but there is a long, long way to go.

From the BLS report: "The number of persons jobless for a year or more rose from 645,000 in the second quarter of 2007 to 4.5 million in the second quarter of 2010."

In fact the long term unemployment problem is so big that the BLS is changing the way they count the long term unemployed. Now, they will track those people who have been unemployed for over 2 years up to 5 years.
