Don't worry about the economy rebounding

There will not be an undeserved Republican Miracle where the incoming mutants get credit for the fruits of 2008-2010 policies that they opposed.

Today's jobs report was twice what was expected and the revisions of prior months were way better than expected... it was a great jobs report in terms of expectations. And if every jobs report was like this one forever then ten years from now unemployment would be down to maybe 8.5%. A "great" jobs reports these dys is one where things merely don't get worse... where we create barely enough jobs to cover the monthly population increase.

The pugs are a lucky bunch, but there is no spontaneous economic miracle on the horizon.

Bad news for them. Probably bad news for us too. And certainly bad for the American people.

1. I think what it means is that things are improving very slowly.

But new jobs need to hit 200,000 a month to start any substantive change in unemployment.

They WILL take credit. They will descend on the airwaves and every right-wing talking head will repeat the lie again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

Orange Speaker Boehner has already spoken on the subject. I'm sure everyone can guess what was said:

5. I tend to agree with that assessment.

I'm no economist, but I don't see an economic boom on the horizon in the near future. Where would the demand come from? Lots of homeowners are still under water, and there could potentially be another wave of foreclosures in 2011 and 2012. I think most likely the economy will continue to muddle along at a low rate of growth for the next few years.
