Stimulus for the rich

A caller to Stephanie Miller's show today, Named Erin, said that we should refer to the tax cuts for the rich as "stimulus for the rich" . She's so right on that. Once enough people call it that, the repugnants will say that tax cuts are not stimulus. Then, we will say, yeah, no shit, the last round from bush didn't do shit to create jobs. Also, we can tell the repugnants that if tax cuts aren't stimulus, they gotta stop referring to a "814 billion dollar failed stimulus program" because a third of it was tax cuts, in fact the biggest tax cuts in American history. The Whitehouse's messaging failure is monumental. When Bush cut taxes, his name was on the letter that came with the check they mailed out. Obama didn't mail checks, he just cut withholding, expecting the stupid masses to know it was a tax cut. they didn't and don't. He should have referred to himself as "President Barack largest-tax-cut-in-history Obama" every time he was announced.

2. $700+ billion for top 2% tax stimulus. And it's ADDED to the budget in January.

Take it away, a lot of budget problems could be solved.

Take away the war to fight the boogy man, too, & we could take care of our own backyard.

3. It was smarter to not give checks

When people got checks, they just saved it instead of spending it, which was smart personally, but didn't help the economy.

What Obama did by giving people money without them knowing resulted in people not changing their spending habits.


It's a matter of choosing between politics and effective policy. I wish Americans could see the difference.

and, it cost less to do it that way, while cutting millions of checks was more costly. But apparently we can't afford to give the people that much credit, the benefit of the doubt that they will be able to understand much beyond their favorite tv shows.

5. Common mistake, believing that results matter in politics.

We are a nation of infantilized ignoramuses that respond only to appearances, the brighter the better.. It doesn't matter that mailing every person a check does nothing to stimulate the economy (although that is itself debatable), it gives the children something tangible that they can mostly comprehend and will stick in their undeveloped minds.

Perception is everything. It's worked for centuries.
