How Democrats can win Conservative districts without running DLC Candidates
Edited on Fri Nov-05-10 12:24 PM by Tony_FLADEM
Voters in conservative districts care about 2 issues:

1. Balancing the budget

2. Abortion

Democrats could be competitive in these districts if they embraced a balanced budget and worked to reduce the number of abortions.

Most of the abortions that take place every year are the result of economics

WHY ARE ABORTIONS PERFORMED?

•On average, women give at least 3 reasons for choosing abortion: 3/4 say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities; about 3/4 say they cannot afford a child; and 1/2 say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner (AGI)

Voters in conservative districts agree with progressives when it comes to regulating business and healthcare. We would not need Democrats that sellout to Corporations i.e. Blanche Lincoln if these 2 issues were addressed.

2. I live in an Upstate New York red district, and know people who live in
a Kentucky Red District. Since we can't win or hold these districts with Republican-Lite candidates, how about running some Progressives? What have we got to lose? Try out some red-meat class warfare candidates willing to fight for our side and see what happens!

3. I live in a conservative area and abortion wasn't even
much on the radar.

Conservatives care about more than two issues.

They care about the budget, true. Abortion, somewhat (depends if they're a fiscal or social conservative - which would include the God, Gays, Guns divide).

But they do care about jobs. They care about earning a decent wage. The problem is that have been programmed to think that jobs are a up to down proposition - that only rich people hire people.

We have to show them that scenario is not necessarily true:
1. Middle class business owners hire people.
2. The government can assist in creating jobs by placing the proper regulations on certain business, i.e. tariffs to hold manufacturing jobs here or trade policies that initiate fair trade, not free trade.
And so on.

I'm just not sold on your "they only care about abortion" scenario.

your naive belief that all conservatives care about is the balanced budget and abortion. In this election, abortion was never mentioned. Repealing 'Obamacare' was the lead in 90% of all GOP TV ads.

Here's a link for you: http://www.votesmart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=26723

Now let's look at the voting records of one Senator John Kerry and one Senator Blanche Lincoln on just the subject of abortion:

With the exception of Partial-Birth, they are identical between the 'Senate's Most Liberal' and what you termed the 'Blue Dog Sell-out'.

Updated to try and fix columns, but it didn't work.
