Could Olbermann Anchoring MSNBC's Elections be what is Causing him Grief?
On his show he is no doubt a commentator paid to express an opinion. But when Olbermann has been in the anchor/host chair for countless MSNBC Election Nights, he is supposed to play an entirely different role. That role is of an impartial anchor who if fair to all sides. Could that be what the issue is here?

I would say if that were the case, it is an unfair expectation of NBC to expect him to act a certain way because of that.

2. No. If that were the case, his special comments should have gotten him into trouble ages ago.

3. True -- plus these were DONATIONS he made, not BRIBES he took

If he took money to have these people on, that'd be
a problem but he can donate to anyone he wants to.
Even having candidates on-air could be seen as a
"donation in kind" -- so they're making a distinction
between that and giving actual cash????

5. His special comments however occur on his show where his job is to express an opinion

11. And your point is? He wasn't making contributions on live television on election night.
Don't try to change the subject. You connected his election night coverage duties as a reason that MSNBC would expect him to maintain impartiality, except your logic is flawed because they obviously don't expect him to maintain impartiality, otherwise, he wouldn't have his own show where he spends a great deal of time not being impartial.

6. As another poster said on DU, maybe it's being done to prepare to transition
his show to someone more conservative.

IMO all that counts for these networks is profit. If this place loosely called a country is moving further right, more fascist, then MSNBC might be trying to get ahead of the curve. And if so, it sucks! More reasons to throw obsolete networks/TVs/cable TV out the window into the trash.

9. This will have the desired effect...
on every other progressive on MSNBC...and perhaps that is the intention. Even if Keith does return, he will not be allowed to continue as he has. This has nothing to do with donations. It is about control.

10. Yep, we can forget about innovative leading edge investigative reporting in the future from
MSNBC. MSNBC will now be even more of the Same Old Sh** we get from MSM. This is such a propagandized nation and most Americans IMO are still too ignorant to comprehend what is going on...

12. All about control ... if KO's contract doesn't end until 2012 that takes him out ...
of the presidential election cycle completely. He'll
have to sit on the sidelines probably if he has a "non-
compete" clause. Totally, evilly manipulative on the
part of Comcast if that's the result.
